The Sales Assistant role is a vital part of the Sales & Marketing department, reporting directly to the Sales Execution Coordinator. This position is primarily responsible for supporting sales operations by providing route relief and other related assistance within the Belleville, IL area. The Sales Assistant plays a critical role in maintaining retail account relationships, optimizing product placement, managing inventory levels, and ensuring that promotions are executed effectively.
This position requires a hands-on approach in retail environments, with duties including following a structured selling process, selling supplier products, and offering value-added services to retail customers. The Sales Assistant will also manage point of sale displays, rotate product stock, sell additional shelf space, and plan promotional activities. The role includes resolving delivery and billing issues promptly and effectively handling inventory decisions based on sales data, competitive activities, and promotional events.
Attention to detail is paramount as the Sales Assistant is expected to maintain required paperwork such as point sheets, expense reports, and tracking forms. Furthermore, the role entails adhering to quality control standards ensuring product freshness and minimizing losses. Compliance with company policies, wholesaler agreements, supplier standards, and legal liquor regulations is mandatory.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate required
- Two years sales experience
- Valid driver license and safe driving record required
- Ability to lift and carry 50 plus pounds frequently
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing bending twisting squatting and kneeling
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights weekends and holidays
- Technologically proficient including MS Office applications
- Ability to pass pre-employment background and drug screening
- Regular and reliable attendance required
- Ability to meet physical demands of the job
- Ability to safely operate job related equipment
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- High school diploma or GED certificate required
- Two years sales experience
- Familiarity selling consumer product goods beer/liquor products a plus
- Highly self-motivated with a positive attitude
- Project a friendly courteous and professional image
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent customer orientation with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to safely operate job related equipment
- Ability to meet physical requirements including handling cases and lifting heavy products
- Valid driver license and safe driving record
- Technologically proficient including MS Office Word Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to pass a required pre-employment background and drug screening
- Ability to perform all essential job functions and duties as assigned
Job Duties
- Maintain retail call frequency to include follow structured selling process sell in supplier products and provide value added services and resources to retail accounts maintain appropriate inventory levels book build and restock displays as needed POCM placements sell in additional shelf space rotate product fill shelves plan promotion activities follow-up on delivery issues deliver product when necessary and resolve billing issues
- Communicate monthly pricing information suggestively sell-in consumer price points and proactively manage price gaps versus competition
- Introduce and sell in new and existing brands and packages including activities to support sell through as necessary
- Complete required paperwork such as point sheets expense reports tracking forms surveys and work orders
- Establish and monitor quality control standards product freshness finished product loss
- Communicate with all Company departments as necessary
- Participate in evening and weekend promotions as necessary
- Make daily decisions regarding retail inventory levels using past sales history sales data tools IRI and Mobility 360 competitive activity and special promotional activities
- Maintain all required information in Mobility unit
- Comply with all Wholesaler Equity Agreement requirements Grey Eagle and supplier standards and policies
- Adhere to all Federal State and Local liquor regulations
- Other duties as assigned
