Job Description

Panera Bread is a well-known bakery-cafe chain that prides itself on offering high-quality, freshly prepared food in a warm and inviting environment. Operating widely across the United States and Canada, Panera is a prominent name in fast-casual dining, known for its emphasis on clean ingredients, fresh baked goods, and comforting meals. Panera's commitment extends beyond just food; it’s about creating an inclusive workplace where employees are valued and provided with opportunities to grow, develop leadership skills, and advance within the company. The company culture encourages teamwork, positivity, and a shared mission to enhance customer experiences while fostering a supportive and enjoyable work environment.

At Panera, employees are more than just team members; they are part of a family dedicated to making a difference every day by delivering excellent service and fresh, wholesome food. The company offers competitive pay, flexible scheduling, comprehensive benefits, and rewards to ensure its workforce feels appreciated and motivated. Panera takes pride in supporting its employees with paid vacation, sick time, health benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, pet insurance, and a 401(k) program with company matching. Career advancement and educational opportunities like tuition discounts are also key parts of Panera’s commitment to its people.

The role of Retail Team Member, specifically the Salad and Sandwich Maker position, is integral to the operation and customer satisfaction at Panera. This role involves preparing and assembling fresh salads, plating soups, and crafting sandwiches using real, high-quality ingredients without the use of fast-food assembly lines. The Salad and Sandwich Maker will be expected to maintain focus on the daily priorities, uphold a positive and adaptable attitude throughout the shift, and complete all cleaning and stocking tasks promptly to set up the next shift for success.

In this position, team members are tasked with assembling a wide variety of menu items to meet stringent speed and accuracy targets, ensuring every order is made correctly and consistently. Delivering warm, friendly service to every guest is a cornerstone of the role, along with maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Beyond food preparation, the Salad and Sandwich Maker contributes to building Panera’s culture of warmth, belonging, growth, and trust, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both guests and coworkers.

This opportunity is ideal for those who are at least 16 years old, have a basic understanding and practice of food safety (including a Food Handler's Card if required by law), and enjoy working with food. While prior food service experience is a plus, it is not mandatory as training and development are provided. Prospective team members must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle shifting priorities efficiently. Flexibility in working hours, including nights and weekends, is necessary for this position.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds, stand, and walk for extended periods up to six hours during shifts, and communicate clearly in a sometimes loud and bustling environment. The successful candidate embodies Panera’s Guiding Values and Behaviors by being personable, proactive, team-oriented, resilient, and fun, always striving for success and fostering positive experiences for guests and fellow employees alike.
