Job Description
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is a prestigious public educational institution serving the greater Los Angeles area. LACCD operates multiple campuses and provides a wide range of educational programs that help shape the future of the community. The district is committed to maintaining safe and efficient campus environments, continuously working toward excellence in infrastructure and facility management. One of the district's key initiatives to support this mission is the BuildLACCD Facilities Program, which is focused on expanding and modernizing the campuses to meet current and future demands. This program represents a major investment in the educational infrastructure, bringing state-of-the-art facilities to students, faculty, and staff across the district. LACCD is dedicated to ensuring its construction projects are conducted with the highest standards of safety and compliance.
The Safety Manager position for the BuildLACCD Program is a highly impactful role based in the western region of Los Angeles. This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive salary of $145,000 per year, and it includes full company benefits such as 10 paid vacation days, 11 paid holidays, and 5 paid sick days, along with comprehensive medical and dental insurance. The Safety Manager acts as the owners' representative, responsible for providing expert safety management across multiple construction projects within the LACCD campuses. The role demands an experienced professional capable of overseeing contractor compliance with regulatory safety requirements and BuildLACCD's own safety standards.
Key responsibilities include daily safety oversight of ongoing construction activities, ensuring adherence to OSHA requirements and the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) procedures. The Safety Manager will conduct safety inspections, generate reports, and collaborate closely with program contractors, project teams, and general contractors. The position requires active participation in construction meetings to address safety topics, review hazard preparedness, and lead safety toolboxes on-site. A strong performance in this role supports the overall goal of creating secure construction environments, minimizing risks, and ensuring that all safety protocols are rigorously followed.
The position requires flexibility to work across multiple sites in the Los Angeles area, often in fast-paced and dynamic construction settings. Candidates must be able to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and support the Program Safety Manager through data analysis, reporting, and attending essential meetings. The Safety Manager must also be adept at reviewing critical safety documentation such as Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), Method of Procedures (MOP), Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, and more, including incident reports and corrective actions. This role represents an excellent opportunity for a safety professional looking to contribute to a large scale, impactful facilities program that supports educational excellence in one of the nation’s largest community college districts.
