Job Description
Okland is a prominent commercial general contractor and construction management company established in 1918 in Salt Lake City. With over a century of continuous growth, Okland has expanded to offices in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho, employing more than 1,200 team members. The company is renowned for delivering some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the United States, covering diverse sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing, healthcare facilities, professional sports venues, and upscale hospitality projects. Okland prides itself not only on the quality of the projects it completes but also on fostering meaningful relationships with its clients, partners, and employees through care, clarity, and commitment. The company is deeply rooted in its values, emphasizing the importance of how they build alongside what they build, which establishes a supportive and inclusive culture and serves as the foundation for its remarkable experiences.
This opportunity is for a bilingual Safety Manager to join Okland’s project team in the Greater Phoenix Area. This role is vital in championing a culture of safety while providing mentorship across project teams. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on leadership experience and a strong field presence, ready to lead safety protocols and practices from the ground up. The Safety Manager will be responsible for monitoring jobsite activities, conducting regular safety inspections, documenting concerns, and spearheading proactive safety initiatives that align with Okland’s C.A.R.E. (Create a Remarkable Experience) values. This position requires an individual who is not only knowledgeable about OSHA standards and safety legislation but who also understands the importance of building relationships and influencing a positive safety culture through effective communication and training. Regular duties will include conducting safety orientations and specialized training such as respirator fit tests, facilitating safety meetings for supervisors and foremen, and collaborating closely with project leadership in incident investigations and root cause analyses. The Safety Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that all safety standards—federal, state, and company—are adhered to, and that job hazard analyses and corrective actions are properly implemented as projects evolve.
Ideal candidates are bilingual in English and Spanish, hold significant experience in construction safety (preferably with a background in concrete and advanced manufacturing), and possess critical certifications including OSHA 500 or OSHA 510 plus a STSC certification. Additional certifications such as CSP, ASP, or CHST are strongly preferred, demonstrating advanced expertise and commitment to safety standards. Strong organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, excellent communication abilities, and the capability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work are essential. This role requires a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, emphasizing safe and responsible behavior both on and off the job site.
Working at Okland comes with numerous benefits and perks reflective of its award-winning culture. Okland consistently earns recognition as one of the best places to work across Arizona, Utah, and Idaho, offering competitive pay with weekly paychecks, salary, bonus incentives, and a 401(k) plan with employer match. Benefits extend holistically to medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance coverage, financial literacy resources, and an Employee Assistance Program that includes legal and mental health support. Employees enjoy additional perks such as tenure awards featuring professional sports tickets, fitness memberships, travel vouchers, and paid work anniversary sabbaticals. The company’s commitment to excellence is evident in the award-winning projects it delivers, recognized by prestigious institutions such as AIA, ENR, and AGC.
Candidates should also consider the physical environment of this role, which entails frequent sitting, talking, hearing, use of hands, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. The work environment exposes employees to ongoing construction activities and various weather conditions, with noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Okland encourages reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
Okland is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusion and does not discriminate based on any protected status as defined under federal, state, or local law. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. This is a unique opportunity to join a legacy company dedicated to creating remarkable experiences for people and building a safer work environment across challenging projects.
