Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferably in safety or security related field
  • Minimum 1 year of health, safety and environmental related experience
  • Experience with OSHA regulations
  • Able to maintain confidentiality in safety, security and personnel issues
  • Frequent local travel between Denver sites required
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, drive, and operate office equipment
  • Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required
  • Ability to work on a hybrid schedule with some onsite presence in Denver
  • No supervisory responsibilities

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferably in safety or security related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in health, safety, or environmental related roles
  • Experience with OSHA regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive safety and personnel matters
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled at presenting to groups and leading meetings
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage complex workloads
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively in team environments
  • Comfortable working independently with ambitious self-starter mindset
  • Interest in behavioral health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery focused treatment approaches

Job Duties

  • Develop safety programs and procedures including development and maintenance of safety captain manuals with expansion into residential and community-based teams
  • Hold regular site-specific safety captain meetings including residential and community-based teams
  • Conduct safety captain mini-drills such as revolution, panic buttons, overhead paging systems, emergency door locks, emergency response checklists and address deficiencies with expansion into residential and community-based teams
  • Identify safety improvement opportunities, compliance concerns, and potential safety risks by conducting frequent audits
  • Assist in identifying adverse safety trends and develop plans to address them in collaboration with program managers, directors, and vice presidents
  • Help address union representatives' safety concerns upon request
  • Manage, audit, investigate, and respond to safety-related Confidential Incident Reports
  • Facilitate and support annual active threat, fire, and severe weather drills
  • Ensure compliance with organizational safety programs and applicable federal and state laws
  • Manage video surveillance system including troubleshooting, reviewing incident footage, and supporting staff
  • Develop urban safety programs and initiate outreach with local organizations
  • Serve as liaison between MHCD and local police and emergency response departments
  • Participate as an active member of MHCD's Emergency Response Team
  • Respond to contacts made to Risk Management’s phone line and email
  • Complete administrative duties and special projects such as presentations, research, and program development
  • Maintain an environment of well-being using equity and trauma-informed principles
  • Perform other duties as assigned
