The role of Safety Clerk within this dynamic environment is integral to maintaining workplace safety and operational efficiency in the ramp area at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport facility. This position is on-site and involves adherence to strict safety protocols governing the handling and transportation of catering supplies, which include food, beverages, and related products. Reporting directly to the Ramp Safety Supervisor, the Safety Clerk monitors compliance with internal company policies and regulatory guidelines, ensuring a secure environment for all ramp personnel.

This role demands meticulous attention to documentation and procedural compliance, including management of driver training programs, maintenance of driver files, and ensuring validity of critical documentation such as Port Authority and Customs identifications, state inspections, registrations, and insurance IDs for vehicles. The Safety Clerk serves as a key contributor to operational risk mitigation by tracking safety incidents and assisting with training initiatives designed to promote best safety practices.

Work schedule flexibility is essential since shifts are typically from 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with rotating days from Wednesday through Sunday or Thursday through Monday. Candidates must be prepared to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support continuous facility operations. Compensation for this full-time role ranges from $18.00 to $22.40 per hour, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance starting on day one, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, sick leave, holidays, tuition reimbursement, free parking, and daily meals.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of safety experience preferred
  • AOA ramp experience may be substituted year for year for safety experience
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain Airport SIDA badge and CBP Customs Seal within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook and other computer applications
  • Open availability, ability to work nights, weekends, holidays as business needs dictate

Job Duties

  • Responsible for SOP training for all new drivers and re-training of drivers
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining all driver files
  • Processing of all Port Authority/Customs identifications
  • Ensure all State inspections, registrations and Insurance ID’s for trucks are current
  • Responsible for ensuring all drivers adhere to A-1 Inspection procedures
  • Assist the Ramp Safety Supervisor as needed and perform other clerical duties as assigned
