Job Description
Marriott International is a world-renowned hospitality company operating a diverse portfolio of hotels and lodging facilities globally. The brand JW Marriott, part of Marriott International's luxury collection, includes over 100 exquisite hotels situated in prime city locations and exclusive resort destinations worldwide. Marriott International has a longstanding commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences through genuine customer service, innovation, and maintaining luxury standards. The company fosters a working environment where employees are valued as the cornerstone of success, promoting a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and growth opportunities. Their mission centers around enhancing the art of hospitality by blending cultural richness, talent, and dedication from their associates to ensure memorable stays for all guests.
The role available is a full-time, non-management position within the Loss Prevention and Security category, located at 800 Washington Ave, Saint Louis, Missouri. This position primarily involves overnight shifts, making it suitable for individuals comfortable and available to work during these hours. As a Security Officer at JW Marriott, you will play an essential role in maintaining the safety and security of both guests and staff throughout the hotel premises. Your duties will include patrolling various areas of the hotel, assisting guests with room access, conducting emergency drills, and performing daily safety inspections to identify and mitigate risks that may threaten the physical integrity and security of the property. The role also entails overseeing CCTV systems and alarms to monitor for suspicious activities or incidents.
In addition to monitoring physical security, the Security Officer will be responsible for investigating incidents, conducting interviews, auditing key controls, and documenting access to secured areas. Responding promptly to accidents, providing first aid or CPR when necessary, and liaising with emergency medical systems are critical components of the job. Maintaining the confidentiality of reports and sensitive information by sharing details only with authorized personnel is mandatory. Managing disturbances per company policies, resolving potentially hazardous situations, and escorting undesirable visitors off the property are key responsibilities. The officer will also ensure compliance with laws related to alcohol control on the premises, use coded communication to request assistance, and support administrative procedures by providing necessary paperwork to employees.
This role further demands cooperative teamwork, as the Security Officer will collaborate with management to help train, motivate, and guide hotel employees. Acting as the initial point of contact for the company’s "Fair Treatment Guarantee and Open Door Policy," the position requires upholding a respectful and safe workplace culture. All company security policies and procedures must be followed strictly, including reporting maintenance issues, security hazards, accidents, or injuries promptly. Appearance standards require a neat, professional uniform and personal grooming consistently. The Security Officer must ensure the privacy and protection of the company’s property and support colleagues with respect and dignity, promoting an environment of mutual respect and team success.
Physically, the role involves handling objects of various weights (up to and over 75 pounds with assistance), standing or walking for extended periods during shifts, navigating confined or uneven spaces, climbing stairs and ramps, and performing continuous visual inspections to ensure safety standards are met. Clear communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with guests, employees, and external contacts, including answering phones professionally and addressing employee concerns appropriately. The Security Officer must remain vigilant for unauthorized or problematic persons on-site and perform reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate, with at least two years of related work experience and one year of supervisory experience. No additional licenses or certifications are required.
Joining JW Marriott means becoming part of a global community where you can develop your skills, advance your career, and work within a culture that fosters holistic wellbeing and professional passion. Marriott International champions equal employment opportunities, valuing diversity and creating accessible job opportunities for all individuals. This role presents a unique chance to contribute to a premier luxury hotel brand by ensuring safety and an exceptional guest experience, echoing Marriott’s commitment to "A wonderful hotel experience, always."
