Job Description
The Cincinnati Reds, a prominent Major League Baseball team, operate one of the most iconic ballparks in the United States - the Great American Ball Park located in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a storied franchise with a rich history and a dedicated fan base, the Cincinnati Reds focus on delivering outstanding experiences not only on the field but also throughout every aspect of game day operations. The organization values teamwork, hard work, and community engagement, which are evident in how the ballpark is managed during events. The Reds are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic work environment, offering employment opportunities that contribute to the overall success of the team and the satisfaction of their fans.
The Runner position within the Ball Park Operations department is a vital role that supports the critical setup and maintenance duties required to ensure that the Great American Ball Park operates smoothly on game days and during other large events. This non-exempt position, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, is suited for individuals age 16 and older who bring a friendly attitude, a positive outlook, and a willingness to work in a fast-paced, interactive environment. As a Runner, employees will engage in various tasks that include preseason and pre-game setup of tables, chairs, promotional items, and other materials essential for game day activities. The role also involves staffing interactive features like the Fan Zone Field, where interaction with fans amplifies the overall ballpark experience.
Beyond the regular game preface duties, Runners provide on-call assistance throughout games, supporting different operational needs as they arise, which can vary widely and help keep the ballpark running efficiently. Postgame and post-season tear-down is another important responsibility, wrapping up the event and preparing the space for future use. The position requires physical resilience as employees must be capable of standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally, and enduring outdoor weather elements such as heat, cold, rain, wind, and direct sunlight. Commitment is essential as employees are expected to work at least 41 Reds home games per season.
Reporting to the Runner Supervisor and the Ball Park Operations Coordinator, this role also offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in event operations, customer service, and sports entertainment environments. No prior experience is necessary, making it an accessible role for those just starting their career journey, or for individuals seeking a dynamic and engaging part-time opportunity with a major sporting organization. The Cincinnati Reds emphasize equal employment opportunity and encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to join their team, ensuring a friendly, equal, and respectful workplace for all employees.
