The Route Driver/Merchandiser plays a crucial role in the overall success of Delicatessen Services by combining delivery and customer service functions. This multifaceted role requires the individual to manage customer deliveries efficiently while proactively engaging with existing customers to maintain and grow service levels. Along with driving the delivery vehicle safely and ensuring on-time arrival, the Route Driver/Merchandiser is responsible for warehouse operations like inventory checks, order creation, and credit management. The individual will also perform in-store merchandising activities, helping to optimize product displays and educate customer staff through one-on-one training that covers product knowledge, slicing techniques, and exceptional customer service.

This position demands a flexible schedule to meet the evolving needs of the customer base and the company. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, possess excellent communication skills, and be able to work independently or as part of a team. Physical stamina is also essential given the demands of lifting, carrying, and handling perishable goods in refrigerated environments. Additionally, candidates will need to manage truck maintenance schedules, coordinate necessary repairs, and participate in special projects as assigned. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including basic math and reasoning
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Three years of experience in customer service, sales, warehouse, or similar role
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 4 hours
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Push or pull objects up to 600 lbs
  • Ability to work in a refrigerated/freezer environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to speak and read English
  • Three years of experience in customer service, sales, warehouse, or similar role
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Basic computer skills
  • Product knowledge and customer service training
  • ServSafe certification
  • DOT compliance and Safe Driver training

Job Duties

  • Itemized check-in of delivered goods with a customer representative
  • Complete bi-weekly customer inventory
  • Create bi-weekly orders based on established inventory levels
  • Pull credits, create out-of-date memos, and issue customer credits
  • Complete merchandising resets and recommend opportunities for cross-merchandising
  • Complete 1-on-1 training with customer employees, including exceptional customer service, product knowledge, product pairings, slicing technique, etc.
  • Complete assigned Go-Spot-Check missions
  • Delivery of perishable goods to customers
  • Monitor truck maintenance schedule and coordinate necessary maintenance
  • Continuously cultivate relationships with customers by actively engaging with deli management and personnel to understand their customer base, evolving product or training needs, and specific opportunities/challenges
  • Complete additional activities or special projects as assigned
