Job Description

McMenamins is a well-established hospitality company known for creating unique experiences through its diverse portfolio of pubs, breweries, music venues, hotels, and theaters primarily located in the Pacific Northwest. Renowned for blending craft beverages with locally inspired cuisine, McMenamins has built a reputation on fostering a community-centric atmosphere that celebrates arts, culture, and history. With a rich heritage spanning several decades, this company deeply values sustainability, creativity, and providing an inclusive work environment that encourages employee growth and customer satisfaction. Employing a team-oriented culture, McMenamins focuses on delivering exceptional service and craft quality, making it a sought-after employer within the food and beverage industry. The company also upholds compliance with all food safety and labor laws and invests in continual training and development of its team members.

The position available is that of a Chef, reporting to the Pub Manager and District Manager. This role is classified as salaried exempt and comes with comprehensive responsibilities that are essential for running a high-volume kitchen smoothly. The Chef at McMenamins is entrusted with managing all daily kitchen operations and staff, ensuring the production of high-quality food that meets the company’s standards. This involves overseeing the entire food preparation and execution process within the pub’s kitchen, including the supervision and training of kitchen personnel. The role also demands managing inventory, ordering supplies, scheduling staff, and conducting performance evaluations. The Chef plays a critical role in maintaining food safety compliance and adherence to portioning guidelines to control food costs effectively.

Beyond the operational duties, the Chef participates in department head meetings to contribute insights and foster communication across departments. They are responsible for facilitating regular team meetings that encourage collaboration and staff engagement. The role requires proficiency in administrative tasks alongside culinary skills—tracking food and labor costs, inventory management, and recipe development are core to the job. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently while also thriving within a team setting, demonstrating strong leadership, organization, and multitasking abilities. Physical stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment are essential due to the nature of kitchen work, which includes lifting heavy items and standing for extended periods.

This opportunity is ideal for culinary professionals who have prior managerial or supervisory experience in busy kitchen environments and who hold a passion for the culinary arts along with a commitment to customer satisfaction and diversity. Working at McMenamins offers a dynamic and supportive workplace where the Chef’s creativity and leadership directly impact the quality and success of the pub’s dining experience. The role demands flexibility in scheduling, including readiness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. McMenamins is committed to equal employment opportunities and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, fostering an inclusive workplace culture that values positive attitudes and dedication to service excellence.
