Located in Texas, Cook Children's stands as a pillar of specialized healthcare with its comprehensive services that include advanced technology, innovative research, specialized treatments, surgeries, rehabilitation, and ancillary health services. The Medical Center forms the backbone of the wider Cook Children's Health Care System, which is dedicated to improving and saving the lives of pediatric patients. The Registered Nurse (RN), Transport position at Cook Children's plays a critical and dynamic role within the Transport-Ground Department. This position will be based at the Prosper location in the future, with a temporary assignment at the Meacham Airport alongside the Transport Team. The RN in this role is entrusted with delivering high-quality nursing care during the transport of neonatal and pediatric patients across various settings. The transports include ground ambulance services, as well as rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, underlining the need for highly specialized nursing knowledge and adaptability across different transport modes. This role demands strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities because the nurse will handle complex clinical situations where sound judgment is essential to meet patient safety and care standards. Moreover, the RN will collaborate closely with Respiratory Therapists (RTs) and Paramedics to optimize care delivery during transport.
This is a full-time position requiring 36 standard weekly hours with varying shifts, demonstrating flexibility in meeting the operational demands of patient transport services. The RN will uphold the mission, vision, and values of Cook Children's Health Care System by delivering compassionate and expert care under sometimes challenging and rapidly changing clinical circumstances. The candidate must be self-motivated, exhibit superior communication skills, and provide exemplary customer service to patients and families during what can be stressful transport situations. Educational prerequisites include graduation from an accredited nursing program, coupled with a minimum of three years' recent experience in Neonatal and\/or Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Emergency Department, or prior Neonatal\/Pediatric Transfer experience. Furthermore, the role requires several mandatory certifications such as CPR, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or an equivalent, and other state and departmental certifications that must be maintained or obtained within specified timelines. The RN Transport position at Cook Children's Medical Center offers a fulfilling career path for nurses passionate about pediatric care and emergency medical transportation, providing a unique blend of clinical expertise, teamwork, and patient advocacy in a highly specialized environment.
