Job Description
Endeavor Health is a fully integrated healthcare delivery system that provides comprehensive, community-connected care across six northeast Illinois counties. With more than 25,000 team members and over 6,000 physicians, Endeavor Health operates across more than 300 ambulatory locations and eight acute care hospitals, including Edward Hospital in Naperville, Elmhurst Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, Highland Park, Northwest Community in Arlington Heights, Skokie, and Swedish Hospital in Chicago. Recognized as Magnet hospitals for nursing excellence, these facilities are distinguished for their dedication to outstanding patient care and nursing practices. Endeavor Health generates annual revenues exceeding $1.5 billion and serves a population of 4.2 million residents, focusing on delivering transformative patient experiences and expert care close to home.
Elmhurst Hospital, located at 155 E. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst, Illinois, invites compassionate and highly skilled nursing professionals to join their Progressive Critical Care Unit (PCCU). This unit caters to a high acuity step-down patient population mixed with ICU patients, offering a dynamic and challenging healthcare environment. The role of Registered Nurse in this unit is full-time, requiring a commitment of 36 hours per week with shifts from 7 pm to 7 am, including every third weekend and holiday rotations. Nurses may also be asked to float to other adult inpatient units as needed, providing variety and broadening clinical exposure.
The orientation period spans between eight and twelve weeks, dependent on prior experience. Day shift orientation is comprehensive, combining classroom instruction and online module completion under the guidance of the PCCU Educator. Night shift orientation begins with the first 3-4 weeks on day shift before transitioning to night shifts, ensuring thorough preparation and confidence in role duties.
Registered Nurses in the Progressive Critical Care Unit are responsible for developing and continuously evaluating plans of care that address patient needs, collaborating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams. They provide comprehensive patient assessments, deliver individualized teaching on disease management, emergency care, and medication, and contribute to professional development within the healthcare team. Their role encompasses assisting with technical procedures such as venipuncture and IV management, participating in performance improvement activities and nursing research, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Compassionate psychological support for patients is also a critical component of this role, fostering a nurturing and empathetic care environment.
This position is ideal for RNs holding an Associate Degree or higher in Nursing, who either have, or are committed to obtaining, a Bachelor’s Degree within five years. Candidates must hold valid Illinois RN licensure, current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, and obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of employment. While inpatient nursing experience is highly preferred, the transition program is designed to support nurses eager to specialize in progressive critical care.
Endeavor Health emphasizes career development, offering Career Pathways to promote growth, along with comprehensive benefits such as premium pay, tuition reimbursement, various insurance options, wellness programs, paid time off, and community involvement opportunities. By joining this organization, nurses become part of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team dedicated to patient-centered healthcare and professional excellence. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit Endeavor Health’s website to learn more about the organization’s mission and values, and its commitment to accommodating individuals with disabilities.
