Job Description

Michigan State University is a prestigious and well-respected public research university located in East Lansing, Michigan. Established in 1855, MSU has a rich history of academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement. The university is dedicated to providing a high-quality educational experience to its students, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, and making impactful contributions to society through its teaching, research, and outreach efforts. MSU’s Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) department plays a vital role in enhancing the campus living experience by providing top-notch dining and hospitality options to students, faculty, and staff. RHS is committed to delivering nutritious, high-quality meals in a welcoming and efficient setting, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational excellence across its various dining venues.

The position of River Trail Dining Services Assistant Manager is a full-time role classified under the Professional Supervisory- APSA group within RHS. This position is key to the successful operation of the River Trail residence hall dining unit, where the Assistant Manager will assume responsibility for supervising food service staff, managing daily food production and presentation, and maintaining adherence to prescribed menus, recipes, and quality standards. The role requires a hands-on leader who can implement effective training programs for support staff, respond promptly to customer concerns, and continuously strive to enhance the dining experience.

This position is designated as critical status, which means that during any university closure or emergency conditions, the Assistant Manager is expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work to continue serving the campus community. If there is a remote work agreement in place, the employee may still be called upon to work onsite as needed. The successful candidate will exhibit strong interpersonal skills, supervisory experience, and a comprehensive understanding of food service practices, sanitation, and safety procedures.

Working hours for this position are from Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with Fridays and Saturdays off. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience. This role presents a prime opportunity for an individual passionate about food service management in a vibrant campus environment and interested in making a positive impact on student life through superior dining services.
