Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc is a premier arts and crafts retail company established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas. As the largest specialty arts and crafts retailer in North America, Michaels operates a robust network of over 1,300 stores in 49 U.S. states and Canada, complemented by its thriving online platforms, Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is renowned for its dedication to inspiring creativity and enhancing the joy that comes from artistic expression. Michaels also includes subsidiaries such as Artistree, a producer of distinctive framing products, and MakerPlace by Michaels, an online marketplace for unique handcrafted items. Michaels prides itself on being the ultimate destination for creativity, offering an extensive assortment of art supplies, framing needs, home décor, and crafting materials aimed at artists, crafters, and DIY enthusiasts.
As a Retail Sales Cashier at Michaels, you will play an integral role in delivering outstanding customer service and creating a welcoming shopping environment that embodies the company’s brand promise of inspiration and creativity. This position primarily focuses on assisting customers throughout their shopping experience—helping them find desired products, providing knowledgeable guidance about purchase options, and facilitating a smooth, friendly checkout process. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring compliance with cash handling protocols and helping customers engage with Michaels’ loyalty programs, including the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards.
In addition to customer-facing duties, the role involves logistical support such as unloading delivery trucks, stocking shelves, and maintaining store cleanliness and organization to optimize product presentation. You will also be trained in customizing frames, which is a specialized service offered by Michaels, further enhancing the customer experience. This role requires adherence to company policies and legal standards, embracing safety initiatives, and collaborating with team members to uphold a positive work environment. The Retail Sales Cashier represents Michaels' values by consistently demonstrating professionalism, respect, and enthusiasm, even in challenging situations, helping to maintain the store’s reputation and foster customer loyalty.
The position demands physical ability, including standing for long periods, moving heavy merchandise, bending, lifting, and reaching higher shelves safely with equipment like ladders. Those interested in this role must comply with all applicable local, state, and federal employment regulations, including being at least 16 years of age. Michaels values previous retail or customer service experience but also provides training to ensure success. The company is committed to equal employment opportunities and cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace where every employee can thrive.
Working at Michaels offers several valuable benefits, including competitive health insurance options covering medical, dental, and vision care to support overall well-being. Employees receive paid time off to ensure work-life balance and have access to tuition assistance to support ongoing education. Additionally, Michaels provides generous employee discounts, allowing team members to explore creative projects affordably. Both full-time and part-time employees enjoy these perks, making Michaels a rewarding environment for those passionate about art and customer service alike. This role may require work during various hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the dynamic needs of retail operations and ensuring that Michaels continues to be the go-to destination for creativity across North America.
