Job Description
Macy's is not just a retail store; it's a cherished American institution with over 160 years of history, innovation, and tradition. Known for iconic events like the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks and the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Macy's has built an enduring legacy by delivering exceptional retail experiences that resonate with customers nationwide. As one of the largest and most well-established department stores in the United States, Macy's offers a wide range of products including fashion apparel, cosmetics, home goods, and more. This rich heritage shapes the company's culture, which values customer service excellence, community connection, and continuous improvement.
The Retail Selling Colleague role at Macy's is much more than handling transactions; it involves creating memorable shopping experiences through genuine hospitality and smart selling techniques. This position blends customer engagement with sales performance, requiring colleagues to understand individual customer needs and provide personalized recommendations to match those needs with the right products and services. Whether assisting customers on the sales floor or in fitting rooms, employees use their product knowledge, warmth, and personalized approach to build trust and foster loyalty. This creates lasting impressions that encourage repeat visits and drive sales.
Retail Selling Colleagues start their day energized and ready to impact the store positively. They take pride in their appearance, wear their name badges proudly, and collaborate with teammates to maintain a neat, organized, and inviting shopping environment. Keeping up-to-date on new arrivals, sales goals, promotions, and market trends, they confidently inform and educate customers. As the day progresses, they focus intently on customer interactions by offering warm welcomes, engaging in friendly conversations, and building customer relationships.
Maintaining an inviting sales space is an important aspect of the role. Colleagues assist by recovering the sales floor and fitting rooms, updating signage and prices, and supporting merchandise changes. The day ends by finishing strong through sharing Macy's Loyalty program benefits, ensuring customers have all they need, and expressing heartfelt thanks, often calling customers by name to enhance the personal shopping experience.
Macy's strongly believes that excellent service starts with fellow colleagues. Working in a supportive, honest, and collaborative environment enhances both customer and colleague satisfaction. The company encourages continuous personal and professional growth by engaging in learning opportunities and leadership development to meet sales goals and improve individual and store performance.
This position offers full-time and part-time schedules with weekend shifts, reflecting business needs and colleague availability. It requires a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees must have regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. The physical demands of the role include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 pounds, and frequent use of computer technology for transaction processing. Communication skills, comfort with electronic devices, and the ability to collaborate effectively are essential.
Working at Macy's means joining a dynamic, inclusive workplace that values diversity and equity. Employees enjoy competitive pay, comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance, life and disability coverage, paid time off, eight paid holidays, a 401(k) match, and access to employee assistance programs providing mental health counseling and financial/legal advice. Additional perks include merchandise discounts, performance incentives, annual merit reviews, and opportunities to participate in community volunteer work and colleague resource groups.
Joining Macy's means becoming part of a company that is deeply woven into the fabric of American culture and retail history. From helping customers find the perfect gift to supporting the operations behind the scenes or creating memorable event experiences, Macy's offers diverse career paths that allow employees to contribute to a legacy of service and innovation. If you are passionate about customer service, motivated to meet sales goals, and eager to work in a supportive team environment that recognizes your efforts, Macy's Retail Selling Colleague position is an excellent opportunity to help write the next chapter in a storied company’s history.
