Job Description
Michaels is a leading retail company specialized in arts and crafts supplies and custom framing solutions. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates more than 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, making it the premier destination for creative enthusiasts. The company’s commitment to fueling creativity and celebration is reflected not only in its wide range of products but also in its dedication to providing an engaging customer experience and a supportive work environment for its employees. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, enhancing its product offerings and expertise in the craft sector.
At Michaels, the role of Event Coordinator at the Minnesota Minnetonka store embodies the company’s mission to bring joy and inspiration through creativity. This position involves planning and coordinating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, to provide clients with memorable and enjoyable experiences. The Event Coordinator must manage multiple events simultaneously, engaging clients ranging in age from young children to senior adults by fostering an environment of fun and creativity. Responsibilities go beyond event coordination to include direct interaction with guests, leading craft project demonstrations, face painting, and organizing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons in accordance with company standards.
In addition to event-related duties, the role involves strong administrative skills such as managing communications with clients and team members through emails, phone calls, and paperwork. Flexibility is essential, as the coordinator must adapt event plans based on client feedback and prepare backup plans for emergency situations. The position also requires ensuring client satisfaction and upholding company standards of cleanliness and safety by setting up, breaking down, and cleaning before and after events.
Team members in this role also contribute to the overall customer experience in the retail environment by assisting customers with shopping, product location, and providing solutions. They facilitate a fast and friendly checkout process and actively promote Michaels’ Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards by enrolling customers and educating them on the Voice of Customer survey. The coordinator supports Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store, participates in merchandise stocking, planogram processes, and maintains store appearance and safety protocols.
Applicants should expect to work in a fast-paced public retail setting that is mostly climate controlled, with some exposure to stock rooms and outdoor areas. The role demands physical activities such as standing for long periods, lifting heavy boxes, and accessing high shelves with ladders. It also requires excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to interact effectively with people of all ages, including children. Previous experience in retail, customer service, and specifically with children’s events, is highly preferred. Effective communication, organizational skills, and the ability to problem-solve creatively are critical to succeed in this position.
Michaels offers competitive compensation ranging from $12.00 to $14.10 per hour and provides robust benefits to support the wellbeing of its team members, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations for all employees to ensure a supportive work environment that aligns with its vision and values. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels fosters a culture of respect and positivity, making it an excellent place for individuals passionate about creativity and customer service to thrive.
