Job Description

The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a well-established leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada as well as an online platform. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has earned its reputation as the premier destination for creative expression, offering a vast selection of supplies for crafting, framing, home décor, and seasonal celebrations. Michaels is also the parent company of Artistree, a specialty custom framing manufacturer, which further solidifies its position in the arts and crafts marketplace. The company is known not only for providing quality products but also for its commitment to fostering creativity and joy through engaging experiences and inclusive policies.

This particular role is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, within a Michaels retail store, and focuses on event coordination alongside customer service duties. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating events including children’s birthday parties and craft classes within the store environment. The role demands a balance of customer interaction, creativity, and organizational skills to provide a fun, stress-free, and memorable experience for guests of all ages—from young children to seniors. Candidates will be expected to deliver excellent customer service by helping shoppers find the products they need and ensuring an efficient checkout process. Additionally, operational responsibilities such as unloading deliveries, stocking merchandise, and maintaining store standards are integral to the job.

As an event coordinator at Michaels, you will be responsible for engaging clients and guests in an interactive, creative environment, offering demonstrations and assistance during craft projects, face painting, and other party activities. The role requires effective communication with clients and internal team members to ensure all events run smoothly and meet company standards. Administrative duties such as handling emails, phone calls, and event-related paperwork are also essential components of this position. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you may need to adjust events based on client feedback or unexpected circumstances, creating backup plans when necessary.

Customer interaction is a significant part of the position; you will actively assist customers with product selection, promote store programs such as the rewards membership and private label credit cards, and support omnichannel services including buy online pickup in-store and ship-from-store functions. Beyond customer-facing activities, you will be involved in inventory management tasks such as truck unloading, stocking, planogram execution, merchandise recovery, and cleanliness and safety maintenance throughout the store. This comprehensive role requires you to uphold company values by delivering a positive, respectful customer experience and supporting safety and shrink prevention initiatives.

The Michaels Companies embrace diversity and inclusion, striving to serve customers and team members with respect and equality. They provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure an inclusive workplace. Offering both full-time and part-time employment, Michaels prioritizes employee wellbeing through a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and significant employee discounts.

In summary, this position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic retail environment focused on creativity and customer engagement. The role calls for a passionate, energetic individual with excellent interpersonal skills and experience in children’s events or retail settings. It promises a rewarding career path where you can be a part of a leading company dedicated to inspiring creativity and celebration in communities across North America.
