Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer headquartered in Irving, Texas, with more than 1,300 stores across the United States and Canada. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has been the go-to destination for arts, crafts, framing, floral, and home decor enthusiasts. The company is committed to inspiring creativity and celebration by providing customers with extensive craft supplies, unique art products, and expert services. Alongside its retail stores, Michaels operates a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, enabling customers to shop conveniently anytime and anywhere. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing products, further emphasizing Michaels’ comprehensive approach to creativity and custom crafts.

Located in Wilmington, North Carolina, the Michaels store offers a dynamic environment where creativity and customer service merge to create memorable shopping experiences. At this store, the focus is on delivering excellent service while supporting diverse customer needs, ranging from everyday crafters to event organizers. Michaels is dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace atmosphere where employees are encouraged to grow, contribute, and showcase their talents. The company emphasizes the importance of teamwork, professionalism, and dedication to brand promises, ensuring that every guest visits a welcoming and inspiring environment.

We are currently looking for an Event Coordinator to join the Wilmington store team, a pivotal role dedicated to organizing and executing engaging events within the store, such as children’s birthday parties, craft workshops, and community activities. This position is key to building customer relationships by providing an enjoyable and interactive environment suitable for guests of all ages, from young children to seniors. The Event Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and facilitate multiple events simultaneously while maintaining exemplary customer service and store operational standards.

This role requires a person with strong communication skills, creativity, organization, and the ability to multitask within a fast-paced retail setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and organizing events, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for creating joyful, memorable experiences through crafts and celebration. Responsibilities include everything from greeting and engaging customers, instructing craft project completion, and performing party activities like face painting, to managing event logistics, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring that every event meets company standards. Maintaining cleanliness and safety regulations before, during, and after events also falls under this role.

In addition to event coordination, the role involves aiding customers with product selection, working the checkout area, supporting omnichannel sales processes such as buy online pick up in store (BOPIS), and participating in back-of-house operations such as truck unloading and inventory stocking. This blend of creative event management and retail duties makes the role diverse and rewarding.

Michaels considers employee wellbeing a priority and supports its team members with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Michaels is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusivity and accommodation of individuals with disabilities.

If you are enthusiastic, energetic, customer-focused, and enjoy working in a creative retail environment, then this Event Coordinator position at Michaels in Wilmington, NC, offers an excellent opportunity to join a leading company in the arts and crafts industry that values creativity, inclusivity, and team member growth.
