Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a renowned leader in the retail arts and crafts industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada as well as online platforms including Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has become the premier destination for creativity and celebration in North America. With an extensive product range, Michaels caters to customers looking to explore their creative passions through crafting, custom framing, and décor. Additionally, The Michaels Companies, Inc. owns Artistree, a premium manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing their market presence and product offerings. Michaels is driven by a clear purpose: to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration for all its customers and employees alike.
At the GREENSBORO-WENDOVER, NC store location, Michaels is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated team members to join their retail store team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy providing friendly and customer-focused service in a dynamic retail environment. The role emphasizes both assisting customers with their shopping needs and maintaining the store’s merchandising standards to ensure a high-quality shopping experience.
The position involves a variety of responsibilities including facilitating customer interactions, helping customers find products, and providing solutions that meet their crafting and framing needs. A critical part of the role is delivering a fast and positive checkout experience that upholds Michaels' commitment to customer satisfaction. This includes accurate cash handling and promoting the company’s Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards to foster customer loyalty while completing enrollments.
Team members will also assist with modern retail workflows such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), further integrating online and in-store experiences. Maintaining the store environment is paramount; this includes participating in unloading truck shipments, stocking shelves, executing planograms, and conducting merchandise recovery to ensure that products are readily available and well presented.
In addition, employees support key operational areas such as Store In Stock Optimization (SISO), safety programs, and shrink prevention, demonstrating Michaels’ commitment to operational excellence and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The role requires interacting with others respectfully and positively, even in challenging situations, and acting as a role model to fellow team members by promoting the company’s vision and values.
The job also offers the chance for cross-training in custom framing selling and production, providing valuable skills development in a specialized craft area. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy boxes, and retrieve items from high shelves using ladders or similar equipment. The work environment is primarily a public retail store setting that is climate-controlled, although some stock rooms and outdoor work may be involved.
Michaels values diversity and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to ensure an equitable work environment. Employment opportunities are available for individuals aged 16 years and older, subject to federal, state, and local employment laws. The company also prioritizes employee wellbeing by providing robust benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts.
Joining Michaels at the Greensboro-Wendover store means becoming part of a team committed to fostering creativity, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for crafters and hobbyists alike. This role is ideal for retail enthusiasts who thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about helping customers bring their artistic visions to life. With comprehensive training, a supportive culture, and opportunities for career advancement, Michaels stands as an attractive employer in the retail sector.
