Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc is a leading retailer in the creative arts and crafts industry, recognized as the paramount destination for artistic inspiration across North America. With a robust network of over 1,300 stores located throughout 49 U.S. states and Canada, complemented by its dynamic online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, the company has established itself as the ultimate resource for everything related to creativity. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has continued to expand its influence not only through retail excellence but also through its ownership of Artistree, a bespoke framing merchandise manufacturer, and MakerPlace by Michaels, a specialized platform dedicated to unique handcrafted items. This extensive reach and diverse brand portfolio demonstrate Michaels’ commitment to enhancing the delight and experience of customers engaging in creative pursuits.
The Retail Customer Service Cashier role at Michaels is an essential part of the company’s mission to provide exceptional customer care and a seamless shopping experience. This position requires a friendly, approachable individual who can assist customers in navigating the store and locating desired items while providing support in a welcoming environment. At its core, the role involves ensuring every customer experiences a quick and enjoyable checkout process, adhering to cash handling guidelines and promoting Michaels’ rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. Additionally, the role extends beyond typical cashier duties to include assisting with unloading merchandise deliveries, organizing products, maintaining the store’s appearance, and supporting the overall merchandising strategy to uphold the company’s high standards and brand promises.
In addition to direct customer interaction, the Retail Customer Service Cashier also plays an instrumental role in cross-channel operations, such as facilitating Order Online Retrieve in Store (ORS) and Send From Store (SFS) systems. The role requires active participation in merchandise recovery, store upkeep, and implementing standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations. Key responsibilities also include supporting downsizing and protection strategies and engaging with team members inclusively, fostering a positive work culture even in high-pressure scenarios. Experience in custom framing sales and manufacturing processes is considered a plus, further emphasizing the company’s comprehensive approach to customer service and product knowledge.
The position demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy items, and navigate various parts of the store using ladders or machinery when necessary. These physical requirements underscore the active nature of the job and the importance Michaels places on operational efficiency and safety. Prospective candidates should be at least 16 years old and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local legal standards.
Michaels not only focuses on providing an enriching environment for customers but also prioritizes the welfare and development of its employees. Benefits offered to both full-time and part-time staff include comprehensive health insurance with coverage for medical, dental, and vision care, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company also fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion, demonstrating a strong commitment to empowering team members to collaborate and grow in a supportive, innovative environment. Candidates can expect to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the retail nature of the business and the commitment to operational excellence.
Joining Michaels means becoming part of a company that values creativity, teamwork, and customer satisfaction, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about retail, customer service, and the arts who seek a dynamic and rewarding work environment.
