Job Requirements

- knowledge of food preparation techniques
- ability to read and follow recipes
- knowledge or ability to learn safety hazards and necessary safety precautions
- knowledge or ability to learn chemicals and equipment used to clean surfaces
- skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written or demonstrated instructions
- ability to communicate effectively
Job Duties
- prepares and serves food to customers and/or patients at an a la carte and/or grill station
- reads food order or receives verbal instructions and cooks food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served
- operates a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to measure, blend, chop, slice and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs
- takes and records food and refrigeration temperatures on the appropriate HACCP logs
- documents corrective actions
- alerts supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies
- detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies and equipment or other unusual conditions
- maintains and establishes departmental policies, procedures, objections, quality assurance programs and health and safety standards
- ensures sanitary levels are maintained throughout food preparation process and foods meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
- may receive inventory, move or lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals requiring special diets
