The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a pivotal position that acts as the driving force behind each restaurant’s daily success. As a Shift Leader, you will play a key part in ensuring that the restaurant operates smoothly, maintaining high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness throughout your shifts. This role involves partnering closely with Restaurant Manager teams to sharpen leadership skills, build operational capabilities, and foster a culture of accountability and positivity among team members. You will be responsible for coaching and motivating Family Members, cultivating a team environment that encourages collaboration, communication, and high performance.

In this role, your day-to-day responsibilities will primarily focus on leading shift operations to maintain consistent quality and service excellence. You will coach new hires and seasoned team members alike, helping them develop their skills and build confidence. You will also support the achievement of financial goals by managing food and labor costs effectively and ensuring basic inventory processes are followed. Maintaining rigorous food safety, workplace safety, sanitation, and compliance standards is a critical part of the job, as is fostering a positive work culture through teamwork and accountability. This leadership position requires a hands-on approach to managing shift transitions and ensuring that each operational aspect of the restaurant is running efficiently like a well-oiled fryer.

Ideal candidates for the Shift Leader role are those with at least a high school diploma or equivalent, who are at least 18 years old, possess strong leadership and coaching experience, and are comfortable working flexible hours including weekends and holidays. Physical demands include the ability to stand for up to 10 hours and lift up to 55 pounds. Certification in ServSafe Food Safety is required or must be obtained during training. While primarily based in the home restaurant, occasional support at neighboring locations or participation in group training and leadership sessions may be required.
