Job Description
Whataburger is a beloved American fast-food restaurant chain renowned for its made-to-order burgers, quality ingredients, and loyal customer base. Founded in 1950, Whataburger has grown into a cultural icon in the Southern United States, especially Texas, and is celebrated for its commitment to quality food, exceptional service, and community involvement. Whataburger operates hundreds of restaurants across the country, providing a fast-paced and friendly work environment where employees are valued as essential members of the Whataburger Family. With a mission centered on serving with heart and fostering team spirit, the company takes pride in investing in its employees’ growth and development by offering clear career paths and competitive compensation packages.
The Shift Leader position at Whataburger is a pivotal role designed for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and possess strong leadership potential. As a Shift Leader, you are the driving force behind operational excellence during your shift. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards in quality, service, and cleanliness while supervising and coaching team members, referred to as Family Members, to ensure a smooth and efficient operation. The role demands acute attention to detail, a passion for helping others succeed, and the ability to motivate and energize the team during peak hours. You will work collaboratively with your Restaurant Manager partners to sharpen leadership skills and build capacity in managing shift operations efficiently. This hands-on role not only focuses on managing day-to-day restaurant operations but also on driving business goals such as food cost control, labor efficiency, sales performance, and compliance with food safety regulations.
Whataburger offers competitive weekly pay along with flexible scheduling options including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts to accommodate various lifestyles and commitments. Additionally, Shift Leaders enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, matching 401(k) contributions up to 4%, medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as short-term and long-term disability benefits. Career development is strongly encouraged with opportunities for advancement within the company, including a path toward becoming an Operating Partner, where six-figure incomes are attainable. The company also supports educational advancement with scholarship programs, hardship grant assistance, free English language learning, no-cost college-level courses, and reduced-tuition degree pathways. Other perks include discounted meals for employees and guests, wireless and computer software discounts, gym memberships, awards and recognition programs, and retirement celebrations.
Working at Whataburger means joining a team-oriented culture where you’re encouraged to serve with integrity and heart, collaborate for success, and continuously learn and grow. The company values a respectful workplace and equal employment opportunities for all, ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment. As a Shift Leader, you will be instrumental in cultivating a positive, accountable, and communicative team atmosphere. This role is based primarily in your home restaurant, with occasional support duties at nearby locations or participation in leadership training and business meetings to expand your skills and connections within the Whataburger community. If you have experience leading teams, enjoy fast-paced environments, and are ready to elevate your career in hospitality management, the Shift Leader role at Whataburger provides an ideal platform to build your leadership capabilities and contribute meaningfully to a thriving brand.
