Whataburger is an iconic fast-food restaurant chain founded in 1950, renowned for its commitment to quality, service, and community values. With a rich history of serving delicious burgers and a unique culture that blends teamwork, leadership, and individual development, Whataburger offers a welcoming environment for those who want to make a meaningful impact while growing their careers. The company prioritizes integrity, collaboration, and dedication, making it a place where employees are encouraged to develop their skills and advance professionally within a supportive and fun atmosphere.
Whataburger's culture revolves around its core values of leading with integrity, serving with heart, and winning as one team. Every shift at Whataburger is an opportunity to contribute to operational excellence, foster positive relationships, and help create an enjoyable experience for customers and staff alike. The company also emphasizes diversity and inclusion, providing equal employment opportunities without discrimination and supporting employees through a broad range of benefits, training programs, and leadership development opportunities.
The role of Shift Leader at Whataburger is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring that restaurant operations run smoothly and efficiently during every shift. This position acts as the spark that keeps the team motivated and the business on track towards its goals by overseeing quality standards, supporting employee growth, and handling operational challenges with confidence. Shift Leaders collaborate closely with Restaurant Managers, sharpening leadership capabilities and contributing to the overall success of the location.
As a Shift Leader, you will be instrumental in driving operational excellence by managing food quality, service, cleanliness, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction. You will coach and train Family Members, helping both new hires and seasoned staff develop the skills and confidence they need to excel. In addition, you will foster a positive work culture that prioritizes teamwork, communication, accountability, and respect. This role is dynamic and fast-paced, offering opportunities for increasing responsibility and career advancement.
Whataburger provides competitive weekly pay and flexible scheduling options, with shifts available during days, nights/evenings, and overnight hours, allowing leaders to balance work and personal commitments effectively. Additional benefits include paid time off, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 4%. The company also supports employee education through scholarships, free language courses, no-cost college-level classes, and reduced tuition degree programs. Other perks include meal discounts, wireless and gym discounts, computer and software discounts, awards and recognition programs, and a retirement celebration program.
This position requires someone who is at least 18 years old, preferably with a high school diploma or GED, who has experience in coaching or leading teams and possesses strong interpersonal skills. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for up to 10 hours and lift up to 55 pounds. Certification in ServSafe Food Handling is required or must be obtained during training.
The Shift Leader works primarily at their home restaurant but may occasionally support other locations or participate in wider market leadership initiatives. They are essential contributors to Whataburger's commitment to delivering outstanding customer service and operational excellence every day. This role offers a meaningful career path with clear growth opportunities, including the potential to rise to Operating Partner status and achieve a six-figure income while being part of a respected and beloved brand that values its people and their development.
