Job Description
Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain that has been serving up iconic, made-to-order burgers and other delicious menu items since 1950. Known for its commitment to quality and customer service, Whataburger has grown into a staple in the communities it serves, celebrated for its distinctive orange-and-white stripes and dedication to delivering fresh and satisfying meals around the clock. With a strong focus on people, Whataburger invests heavily in developing its employees, encouraging bold leadership, and fostering a culture where potential is nurtured and teamwork drives success. This commitment extends beyond just the restaurant floor to comprehensive support including career development, education benefits, and wellness programs.
The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a dynamic and critical position within the restaurant team, responsible for ensuring that every shift operates smoothly and efficiently. As a Shift Leader, you will be the driving force behind operational excellence during your shift, maintaining high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness. You will be deeply involved in coaching and training Family Members, supporting their growth and ensuring they have the skills and confidence needed to succeed. Your leadership will help create a positive work environment where collaboration thrives, even during the busiest times.
In this role, you will work in close partnership with the Restaurant Manager to build your leadership capabilities and deepen your operational knowledge. This hands-on experience prepares you for long-term career growth within Whataburger, where there is a clear pathway towards higher leadership roles, including the potential to become an Operating Partner with six-figure earning opportunities. The position offers flexible schedules with shifts available across days, nights, evenings, and overnights to accommodate different lifestyles.
Beyond competitive weekly pay, Whataburger provides robust benefits such as paid time off, a 401(k) match, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as short- and long-term disability benefits. Additional perks include discounts on meals, wireless services, and fitness memberships, alongside educational support including free English-language learning and reduced tuition for degree programs. Whataburger also supports employees’ families through its Scholarship Program and Hardship Grant Assistance.
The working environment at Whataburger is a place where leadership is not just a title but an opportunity to make meaningful contributions every day. As a Shift Leader, your role is critical in transforming challenges into opportunities, fostering team spirit, and maintaining high standards of food safety, workplace safety, and sanitation. Your ability to multitask, communicate clearly, and lead by example will be essential as you manage shift operations and drive business performance related to food and labor costs, sales, and inventory management.
This position requires someone who is at least 18 years old, holds a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and has experience coaching or leading teams. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 55 pounds. Candidates must hold or be able to obtain ServSafe Food Certification. The Shift Leader will primarily work at their home restaurant but may also support nearby locations and participate in broader leadership and training meetings to stay connected with Whataburger’s organizational goals and culture.
Joining Whataburger means becoming part of a community that values integrity, heart, and the drive to move forward boldly. It is a place where you are encouraged to learn, grow, and make a real impact in your team and community. If you are ready to take on a challenging and rewarding leadership role, Whataburger offers you the platform to develop your skills and shape your future in the restaurant industry.
