Job Description
Whataburger, founded in 1950, is a leading fast-food restaurant chain known for its distinctive hamburgers and commitment to quality, customer service, and community impact. With a rich history rooted in bold leadership and a vibrant company culture, Whataburger has grown from a single location into a beloved brand recognized across numerous markets. As a restaurant that values integrity, passion, and teamwork, Whataburger offers a dynamic environment where employees are encouraged to develop their skills, embrace challenges, and contribute meaningfully to their teams and guests. Our dedication to an inclusive workplace and comprehensive employee benefits sets us apart, making us a top choice for careers in the restaurant industry.
The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of each shift by driving excellence in service and operational standards. Shift Leaders act as the primary support for the Restaurant Manager, directly influencing team productivity, customer satisfaction, and overall restaurant success. This position offers competitive weekly pay, flexible scheduling options including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts, and extensive benefits such as paid time off, retirement plans with 401(k) matching, and medical, dental, and vision coverage. Additionally, Whataburger provides educational support through scholarships and free college-level courses, fostering personal and professional growth within the company.
As a Shift Leader, you will lead by example and motivate team members — known as Family Members — by coaching them to enhance their skills and confidence. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, cleanliness, and customer service. Your leadership will be especially crucial during busy periods, where collaboration and quick decision-making keep operations efficient and guests satisfied. The role also includes key responsibilities such as managing labor and food costs, supporting inventory controls, and fostering a positive work culture grounded in accountability and open communication.
Whataburger is proud to cultivate leaders with bold visions who are ready to make a real impact on the restaurant industry and their communities. The Shift Leader position is ideal for individuals passionate about teamwork, leadership development, and career advancement within a supportive and fast-paced environment. With a clear promotional path to operating management roles that can earn six-figure incomes, Whataburger encourages its Shift Leaders to envision bright futures as integral members of a growing company. Whether assisting with daily operations or participating in leadership training sessions, Shift Leaders are essential to the Whataburger family and its ongoing success.
