Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved American fast-food restaurant chain known for its fresh, made-to-order burgers and exceptional customer service. Founded in 1950, Whataburger has grown into a cultural icon in many states, earning a reputation not only for its delicious food but also for its values of bold leadership, integrity, and community involvement. The company prides itself on being more than just a burger joint — it’s a place where employees, referred to as Family Members, are empowered to grow both personally and professionally. Whataburger supports various initiatives such as scholarships through the Whataburger Family Foundation, education programs, and leadership development. The culture emphasizes working together, caring for customers and each other, and striving to win as one team.

The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is critical to maintaining the restaurant’s high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness during each shift. As a Shift Leader, you will be the driving force that keeps the restaurant operating smoothly and efficiently. This role offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills by partnering closely with the Restaurant Manager team and coaching fellow employees. Shift Leaders help new hires quickly get accustomed to their responsibilities and inspire experienced team members to perform at their best. The role requires juggling multiple responsibilities such as overseeing operations, supporting business goals related to food and labor costs, upholding safety standards, and fostering an upbeat and accountable work environment.

Whataburger offers flexible schedules including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts along with competitive weekly pay. In addition to a strong pay package, Shift Leaders receive paid time off, 401(k) matching, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Employees have access to a robust scholarship program for dependents, opportunities for career advancement with a clear path to six-figure earnings, and education support including free English-learning classes and discounted college-level courses. The company further offers perks such as discounted meals, wireless and computer service discounts, gym memberships, awards and recognition programs, and a retirement celebration program.

Working as a Shift Leader allows you to make a real difference in a company with a long-standing history of investing in its people. You will be a mentor, leader, and essential team player helping Whataburger deliver a memorable dining experience that customers love. This is an excellent role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys coaching others, and wants to build a rewarding career in restaurant management, all while being part of a supportive and fun culture that values boldness and collaboration.

This position is based at the home restaurant location with occasional leadership support roles at nearby restaurants within the market. It offers front-line management exposure, leadership training, and the chance to be part of a nationally respected brand committed to inclusive hiring practices and employee growth.
