Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain, widely recognized for its delicious burgers and exceptional customer service since its establishment in 1950. With decades of experience in serving quality food and fostering a strong team culture, Whataburger thrives on the core values of bold leadership, integrity, and teamwork. This brand has made its mark by not only offering exceptional food but also by investing heavily in its people, empowering them to grow both personally and professionally. The company is well-known for its commitment to creating equal employment opportunities, fostering inclusivity, and supporting its employees through comprehensive benefits and career growth opportunities. Whataburger’s culture encourages working together, speaking up, having fun, and winning as one cohesive team — all crucial ingredients for making every shift successful.

The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a vital position responsible for driving operational excellence within the restaurant during assigned shifts. As a Shift Leader, you will serve as the spark that keeps the restaurant running smoothly and efficiently. Your leadership will guide the team in maintaining quality, service, and cleanliness standards while nurturing an environment where every team member — known as Family Members — can grow their skills and confidence. This role is centered on leadership development, teamwork, and fostering a positive workplace culture. You’ll partner closely with Restaurant Managers to strengthen shift management capabilities, support operational goals related to food and labor cost control, sales, and inventory, and uphold strict safety and sanitation policies.

This leadership opportunity offers flexible scheduling options including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts, catering to diverse availability needs while also providing competitive weekly pay. The benefits offered include paid time off, 401(k) matching, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and opportunities for career advancement with a clear path to six-figure earnings. Additionally, Whataburger supports continuing education through free English classes, college-level courses, and reduced tuition degree programs. Other perks include discounted meals, wireless service and gym discounts, awards and recognition programs, and a retirement celebration program.

As a Shift Leader, your role extends beyond daily operations to fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellent service. You will coach and motivate Family Members to excel, especially during busy service periods, ensuring a seamless customer experience. Responsibilities also include managing shift transitions, supporting performance targets, and ensuring compliance with food safety and workplace standards. This position is based primarily in your home restaurant but may require assisting nearby locations and participating in leadership training and business meetings.

Whataburger values inclusivity and equal opportunity for all employees and applicants. The company complies with federal hiring standards and participates in the E-Verify program to support a fair and legal hiring process. Overall, working as a Shift Leader at Whataburger is an excellent opportunity for those looking to develop their leadership skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with strong support for growth and development.
