Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain known for its made-to-order burgers and dedication to quality, service, and community. Founded in 1950, Whataburger has grown into a respected brand with a passionate family-oriented culture that values integrity, teamwork, and bold leadership. The company prides itself on fostering growth opportunities for its employees and encouraging a fun and inclusive environment. With locations primarily across the southern United States, Whataburger offers not just job opportunities, but career paths that lead to leadership roles and personal development for those driven to make an impact.

The Shift Leader position at Whataburger is a pivotal leadership role that keeps the restaurant operating smoothly during every shift. As a Shift Leader, you’ll be the driving force behind operational excellence, ensuring that the restaurant maintains high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness. You will supervise and motivate a team of Family Members, coaching new hires to quickly learn their roles, while helping experienced team members grow their skills and confidence. Your leadership will play a critical role in driving sales performance, managing food and labor costs, and upholding food safety and workplace compliance standards.

This role demands strong communication, multitasking, and team-building abilities as you work closely with your Restaurant Manager to sharpen leadership capabilities and build a robust operational foundation. Flexibility is key, as shift schedules vary, including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts. Whataburger supports your growth with clear career development paths that can lead to six-figure leadership roles. Beyond competitive pay, Whataburger offers extensive benefits such as paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, educational support, and employee discounts.

Working as a Shift Leader, you’re not just managing a shift; you’re part of a family that wins as one. The company embraces a culture of collaboration, accountability, and positive workplace dynamics where you can move forward boldly, turning challenges into opportunities and expanding your leadership toolkit. Whataburger’s commitment to equal employment opportunities ensures a welcoming environment for all, and its participation in the federal E-Verify program adds an extra layer of workplace integrity. This role, based in your home restaurant with occasional support to nearby locations, connects you to a broader community of leaders and learners ready to make a difference every day.
