The Shift Leader role at Potbelly Sandwich Shops is a dynamic and critical position within the operations department. Reporting to the General Manager or Assistant Manager, the Shift Leader is responsible for managing and developing associate teams to deliver outstanding product quality and customer service during shifts. This role entails leading by example, motivating team members, and ensuring adherence to Potbelly’s operating standards, including food safety, security, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Shift Leaders play a key part in driving sales, controlling costs, and maintaining an efficient, organized, and welcoming restaurant environment. Compensation ranges from $13.00 to $15.00 per hour, including tips, reflecting a competitive wage for the industry. Job Requirements
- High school degree
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in restaurant or retail
- Food safety certification required
- Ability to work minimum 2 opening and or closing shifts per week
- Ability to stand walk for 8 to 9 hours and sit for 1 to 2 hours daily
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work in warm and cool indoor environments and tolerate higher noise levels
- Ability to handle potential allergens including peanut products egg dairy gluten soy seafood and shellfish
- Ability to comprehend and communicate in English verbally and in writing
- Must embody Potbelly values
- Ability to work a minimum 40 hours a week
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment
- High school degree
- Food safety certification through recognized authorities such as the Illinois Department of Public Health National Restaurant Association or equivalent
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a fast-paced high-volume environment
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to train coach and develop team members

Job Duties
- Lead associates on shifts including assigning tasks such as cleaning line duties and opening or closing duties
- Provide feedback and training to team members
- Ensure compliance with personnel policies labor laws and safety procedures
- Execute security procedures including safe and cash handling processes
- Resolve customer complaints and empower associates to ensure customer satisfaction
- Manage and organize shift operations including line management and promotion of sales
- Control food costs labor waste and cash handling during shifts
