The Front of House Manager role at PJ Whelihan's Restaurant + Pub is instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities. Reporting to the Assistant General Manager or General Manager, this leadership position supports the General Manager in the planning, organizing, and training necessary to meet and exceed restaurant objectives. The Front of House Manager oversees key areas including sales, labor and food costs, guest services, employee hiring and retention, food quality, and sanitation standards. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $56,000 to $60,000 annually.

As a manager, you will ensure every guest feels welcome and receives prompt, courteous service. You will actively support servers and hostess staff, check on guests to ensure service quality, and uphold high standards across sales, service, facility appearance, and cleanliness. You will manage cash handling processes following restaurant policies and partner with the General Manager on hiring and termination decisions. This role requires filling in wherever necessary, whether front or back of house, to maintain smooth operations and uphold guest service standards.

Additionally, the role includes preparing all required paperwork, such as reports and schedules, in an organized and timely manner. You will provide constructive feedback and coaching to employees, documenting performance consistently while helping develop their skills in service, food presentation, safety, and sanitation. Marketing and promotional activities will also fall within your purview, collaborating with the General Manager to develop and implement campaigns aimed at driving restaurant growth.

Knowledge of restaurant policies is crucial, ensuring prompt and fair disciplinary actions when necessary. The role requires effective labor scheduling in line with anticipated business demands while meeting labor cost objectives. Compliance with all relevant federal, state, county, and local regulations related to health, safety, and labor is mandatory, safeguarding the well-being of employees and guests alike.

This position is ideal for someone with at least one year of supervisory experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant, holding ServSafe Certification, and possessing strong leadership and decision-making skills. Candidates should be capable of analyzing profit and loss statements, managing budgets, and communicating effectively across all levels of the restaurant team. A proactive, positive attitude and the ability to manage multiple priorities will be essential for success. Basic computer skills and experience working with scheduling, time and attendance, and POS systems are also required.

Job Duties

  • Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service at all times
  • Must be present and supportive for servers and hostess staff and check-in with guests to validate service consistently meets standards
  • Achieve company objectives in sales, service, quality, appearance of facility and sanitation and cleanliness through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment
  • Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with restaurant policies and procedures
  • Partner with the General Manager in making employment and termination decisions
  • Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations in Front or Back of the House
  • Continually strive to develop your staff in all areas of service, food presentation, safety and sanitation
  • Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback and coaching to employees regarding their performance
  • Ensure both positive and negative performance is documented and communicated accordingly
  • Assist General Manager to develop, plan and carry out restaurant marketing, advertising and promotional activities and campaigns
  • Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures
  • Schedule servers and hostesses as required by anticipated business activity while ensuring that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the restaurant, employees and guests
