Job Description
CO-OP Restaurant & Lounge, a vibrant dining establishment located within The Study at University City in Philadelphia, PA, is renowned for its spirited hospitality and innovative seasonal menus. Nestled in a 212-room hotel that sits at the dynamic crossroads of the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, the restaurant offers a lively yet welcoming atmosphere across its 120-seat dining and lounge area. The Study at University City itself is a distinguished hotel that epitomizes contemporary, residential-inspired design with thoughtfully curated guest rooms and inviting public spaces. Beyond dining, the hotel caters to a diverse clientele through its substantial 7,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event spaces, frequently hosting university functions, corporate meetings, conferences, and private events, all supported by an expert culinary team.
The Host / Hostess role at CO-OP Restaurant & Lounge is an essential position responsible for crafting a warm and inviting first impression for every guest who walks through the doors. As the initial point of contact in the front-of-house team, the Host / Hostess orchestrates an organized and fluid dining experience by managing reservations, guest flow, and facilitating effective communication between both front-of-house and back-of-house staff. This role requires a charismatic and detail-oriented individual adept at managing multiple tasks in a bustling environment while maintaining a service-oriented demeanor. The Host / Hostess must excel at multitasking, possess excellent communication skills, and have a genuine passion for hospitality and guest engagement.
This position is not only about seating guests but also about setting the tone for outstanding service throughout the dining experience. Responsibilities include greeting guests promptly with professionalism and warmth, efficiently managing reservations with OpenTable, fielding guest inquiries over the phone, coordinating room service and takeout orders, and handling transactional duties such as processing cash and credit card payments. The Host / Hostess is expected to be knowledgeable about menu offerings and maintain an organized, clean host stand to promote operational excellence. By working closely with teammates across the restaurant and supporting them as needed, the Host / Hostess plays a pivotal role in ensuring that every guest's experience is seamless and memorable.
CO-OP Restaurant & Lounge values energetic, service-driven associates who prioritize guest satisfaction. The role offers a unique opportunity to join a team within a dynamic hospitality environment, delivering memorable guest experiences at the intersection of education, culture, and culinary innovation. Eligible full-time team members enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, paid time off, paid holidays, 401(k) retirement plan participation, and access to an Employee Assistance Program. Study Hotels promotes a drug-free workplace and requires a pre-employment drug test and background check. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion means Study Hotels is an Equal Opportunity Employer, welcoming applicants from all walks of life without discrimination.
