Job Description

Border Foods began as a vision between two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant and has since evolved into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in the United States. Operating with a strong people-first mantra, Border Foods emphasizes its commitment to the Core Values that guide every aspect of its operations: Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment. The company prides itself on creating a supportive work environment where employees from various roles, including cooks, cashiers, restaurant managers, and more, collaborate to provide outstanding service and quality food experiences to customers. This family-style culture encourages continuous learning, personal growth, and career development, making it more than just a workplace but a community that values every individual's contribution and fosters a mission to improve lives.

The role of a General Manager at Border Foods is critical to reinforcing these core values throughout the restaurant's operations. As a General Manager, you are entrusted with the overall responsibility of running the entire restaurant while building and leading a strong, motivated team. Your mission is to create opportunities that positively impact both employees and guests by ensuring a safe, welcoming, and dynamic environment where everyone can thrive. This leadership role involves driving operational excellence and maintaining high standards for food safety, customer service, team accountability, and financial performance.

General Managers at Border Foods receive competitive compensation, with base pay and opportunities to earn up to $100,000 annually, which includes top-tier bonuses and performance incentives. The company rewards its best performers with exclusive trips, such as their Best of the Best annual trip to Mexico, underscoring the added value and appreciation for outstanding leadership. Beyond compensation, Border Foods supports its employees through comprehensive benefits like medical, dental, and vision coverage available even to part-time staff, as well as education programs, scholarship opportunities, paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and a vacation donation program. These benefits underscore the company’s commitment to the well-being and professional development of its team members.

The General Manager’s responsibilities encompass guiding and mentoring team members and shift leaders, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, delivering excellent customer experiences through fast and friendly service, and maintaining accurate operational processes such as point-of-sale system management and financial monitoring. This position demands strong leadership skills to foster unity and teamwork within the restaurant, address employee issues promptly, and maintain a positive work environment that motivates and recognizes staff achievements. Moreover, the General Manager must be a strategic planner capable of managing budgets, hiring and training proficient team members, and minimizing losses through effective cash handling, inventory, and labor controls.

Qualified candidates will ideally have a minimum of three years of experience in restaurant or retail management or equivalent educational and professional background. The role entails a commitment to working a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the operational demands of the restaurant industry. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, be ServSafe certified, and possess a valid driver’s license with vehicle insurance. This is an exempt management position requiring a minimum of 50 hours per week, with additional hours as necessary to meet business needs.

At Border Foods, the General Manager role is more than an operational position; it is a chance to be part of a thriving, inclusive culture that values integrity, teamwork, and empowerment. The company is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer welcoming minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities, ensuring fair and respectful treatment for all. Working for Border Foods means joining an independent franchisee of Taco Bell, offering unique local leadership, competitive wages, and a chance to make meaningful impacts on the lives of employees and guests alike.
