Job Description
Border Foods began as a humble idea between two brothers to open a Mexican restaurant and has grown into one of the largest privately held Taco Bell franchisees in America. As a people-first organization, Border Foods prides itself on fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment that values every team member from cooks to cashiers and restaurant managers. Known for its strong commitment to core company values such as Accountability, Integrity, Family, Excellence, Teamwork, and Empowerment, Border Foods has developed a culture that emphasizes personal and professional growth, while delivering excellent customer experiences.
Joining Border Foods as a General Manager means becoming a pivotal leader responsible for the full operation of a restaurant. The General Manager's role is centered on reinforcing the company’s core values and creating an environment where both employees and guests feel valued and supported. This position involves building and leading a cohesive team that consistently delivers high-quality food and friendly service in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. With a mission to positively impact the lives of employees and guests, the General Manager nurtures a restaurant culture that inspires continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Border Foods offers a highly competitive compensation package for this role, with potential earnings reaching up to $100,000 annually through a base salary and top-tier bonus opportunities. Additionally, high-performing General Managers are rewarded with unique incentives such as an annual trip to Mexico, recognizing excellence and dedication. The company also supports employee development with education programs including GED completion and tuition reimbursement, as well as scholarship opportunities. Benefits extend to all employees, including part-timers, with access to medical, dental, and vision coverage. Other perks include free food, paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay, and a vacation donation program.
In the General Manager role, the individual is entrusted with upholding health and safety standards, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and maintaining operational systems such as point of sale platforms. They oversee scheduling, team deployment, and performance management, holding team members accountable while fostering a positive and safe work culture. Operational responsibilities also include budget management through profit and loss interpretation, labor and inventory control, loss prevention, and effective cash handling practices.
Leadership at Border Foods embraces the ethos of empowerment by identifying team strengths and encouraging ongoing learning and career development. General Managers coach and mentor staff actively, sharing innovative ideas and tools to facilitate growth and success both individually and collectively. The company also values responsiveness to employee and customer issues, promoting open communication and ensuring swift resolution of challenges.
This role requires a minimum of three years’ experience in restaurant or retail management or equivalent education and experience. Ideal candidates have proven skills in sales building, recruiting, training, and employee retention. Certifications such as ServeSafe are important, alongside the ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Border Foods is dedicated to equal employment opportunities for minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. The company values diversity and inclusion and does not discriminate based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Prospective employees should note that they are applying to work for a franchisee of Taco Bell, an independent business owner distinct from Taco Bell Corporation.
