The Restaurant General Manager role is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the overall operational and fiscal success of the restaurant. This management position requires a dynamic individual who will serve as the central source of information and guidance for the restaurant team. The RGM ensures 100 percent compliance with food safety, labor laws, and company policies while maximizing resource utilization and protecting company assets, including cash, inventory, and equipment. A key part of the role involves recruiting, training, and developing assistant managers, shift managers, and team members, ensuring that all staff operate within the guidelines of company standards and policies.

The Restaurant General Manager must cultivate a motivating and positive work environment and engage in effective employee relations practices such as conducting timely performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, and enforcing discipline when necessary. This role demands a proactive manager who manages employee turnover within company standards and maintains strong, open communication channels across all shifts.

Guest service excellence is paramount in this role. The RGM leads by example to guarantee the restaurant meets and exceeds company-set guest standards, resolving complaints swiftly and leveraging company tools for customer feedback and satisfaction measurement. On the financial front, they manage labor, food costs, supplies, audits, cash handling, and deposits to align expenses with budgetary goals and ensure asset security.

Operationally, the position entails overseeing the adherence to core behaviors and standards, maintaining updated training and operational manuals, ensuring cleanliness and safety protocols are met, and monitoring compliance with all regulatory codes and health inspection standards. The manager also plays a role in marketing initiatives, identifying business generators, and scheduling staff effectively to optimize traffic and sales.

Key relationships for the Restaurant General Manager include building trust and guiding the restaurant team, collaborating with restaurant management on operational matters, cultivating relationships with vendors for cost-effective pricing and shipments, and maintaining strong customer loyalty and brand integrity in the community. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three years of restaurant management experience with P and L responsibility
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for applicable roles
  • Food safety certification according to local or state requirements
  • Proven ability to manage employees and shifts independently
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to comply with all company and governmental regulations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of restaurant management experience including P and L responsibility
  • Proven ability to manage multiple shifts without supervision
  • Advanced studies in business, restaurant management or related field preferred
  • Food safety certification as required by state or local regulations
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance for positions requiring driving
  • Ability to analyze reports and conduct accurate inventory counts
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Job Duties
