The Residential Meal Prepper position at the Helen Ross McNabb Center represents a vital role within the CenterPointe adult residential substance use treatment facility. This position primarily involves preparing nutritious and appetizing meals for clients receiving treatment throughout the week. The Residential Meal Prepper is responsible for cooking lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and may assist with breakfast preparation on weekends if needed. With adherence to carefully planned menus and budgetary guidelines, this role ensures that every meal served supports the health and recovery of clients. The Meal Prepper also handles ordering food supplies, maintaining positive relationships with vendors including Second Harvest, and ensuring the kitchen meets strict public and state health standards. Maintaining a sanitary kitchen environment is crucial, and duties include cleaning appliances, refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashing equipment on a regular schedule.
This position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of health practitioners, effective communication with supervisors regarding kitchen and supply needs, and strong organizational skills for ordering and inventory management. The work environment is within a 24/7 residential treatment center that operates year-round, demanding reliability and dedication from all staff members. Certified driver status and vehicle maintenance may be necessary to assist with transportation needs such as food deliveries. Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications is important for timekeeping, scheduling, and record maintenance.

Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Experience in food preparation and menu planning
- Knowledge of nutritional guidelines and sanitary food handling
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 150 lbs
- Exposure to biological hazards
- Certification in verbal and physical de-escalation techniques
- Maintained First Aid and CPR certification
- Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license with F endorsement
- Ability to work a 40-hour week Monday through Friday
- Willingness to attend mandatory trainings
- Ability to maintain sanitary kitchen environment
- Ability to follow health codes and safety standards
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of nutritional needs and food preparation within budget constraints
- Experience in menu planning and food ordering
- Awareness of sanitary food preparation and kitchen cleanliness
- Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work with gas ovens, stoves, industrial dishwashers, and tabletop deep fryers
- Certification in verbal and physical de-escalation techniques
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 150 lbs
- Ability to maintain effective communication and good vendor relations
Job Duties
- Cook appetizing and nutritious meals for clients Monday through Friday including lunch and dinner
- Assist with cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekends as needed
- Follow four-week rotating scheduled menu plans
- Ensure meals follow nutritional guidelines including all main food groups
- Serve enough food with consistent preparations and condiments for clients and staff
- Place weekly food orders with vendors to ensure menu item availability
- Maintain communication with supervisor regarding kitchen, equipment, and cleaning needs
- Maintain good working relations with food suppliers and vendors
- Keep the kitchen sanitary including cleaning stoves, ovens, fryers, refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers weekly
- Ensure food storage, handling, and preparation comply with health codes including proper labeling and temperature logging
- Monitor clients in kitchen to enforce health and program rules
- Maintain First Aid, CPR, and other required trainings
- Attend mandatory staff trainings as scheduled
