Job Description

The Dayton Society of Natural History (DSNH) is a well-established nonprofit organization committed to inspiring curiosity and learning through its diverse museums and historic sites, including the renowned Boonshoft Museum of Discovery and the SunWatch Village. Focused on enriching the community through education, culture, and engagement, DSNH offers family-friendly and educational experiences that bring science, history, and culture to life. The Society’s goal is to create a welcoming environment where guests of all ages feel comfortable to explore and discover the natural and human history of the Dayton region. DSNH is dedicated to preserving and sharing its collections and sites through dynamic programming, outreach, and events that foster lifelong learning and community connection.

We are currently seeking a part-time Rentals Assistant to join the Community Engagement and Events department. This role is integral in maintaining a positive and inviting atmosphere for visitors attending birthday parties and private events held across DSNH’s venues. Working under the supervision of the Community Engagement and Events Manager, the Rentals Assistant will be responsible for the day-of coordination and customer service management for all private rentals at DSNH facilities. This includes welcoming visitors, overseeing event logistics, coordinating outside vendors, and ensuring that all events run smoothly and meet DSNH’s high standards. The Rentals Assistant will act as the on-site point of contact during events to manage building preparation, execution, and clean-up, ensuring an exceptional experience for clients and guests.

This position offers a non-exempt, hourly wage of $13 to $14 per hour, with an expectation of 15 to 25 hours per week. The schedule is flexible but varied, requiring availability for weekends, evenings, and some weekday events to meet the needs of DSNH’s rental calendar. In addition to event support, the Rentals Assistant will also schedule and manage birthday parties using internal systems, and participate in community outreach initiatives to promote DSNH’s mission. This role requires excellent customer service skills, strong communication abilities, and attention to detail, combined with a passion for community engagement and a dedication to the vision of the Dayton Society of Natural History.

In summary, the Rentals Assistant is a dynamic and customer-focused position essential for the success of DSNH’s rental program and community involvement. This role offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant environment that combines event management with educational outreach, supporting an institution deeply rooted in cultural and historical preservation. It is ideal for candidates who enjoy varied responsibilities, flexible hours, and direct interaction with the public in a professional setting that promotes natural history and discovery.
