Job Description
PAQ, Inc. is a distinguished 100% employee-owned company operating 25 retail grocery stores across California's Central Valley and Central Coast. The company proudly manages seventeen price-impact, warehouse-format stores under the Food 4 Less banner and eight stores under the Rancho San Miguel Market banner that serve the Hispanic community. PAQ, Inc. stands out in the retail grocery industry not only for its commitment to competitive pricing and community-focused service but also because of its unique employee-ownership structure that empowers its workforce and fosters a collaborative corporate culture. This ownership model motivates employees by giving them a direct stake in the company’s success, promoting long-term stability, and encouraging shared prosperity among its team members.
At PAQ, Inc., employee owners enjoy access to some of the best benefits in the grocery retail industry. These include medical, dental, and vision insurance options available for minimal payroll deductions, a robust Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) that allows employees to earn money for retirement, competitive wages, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, sick leave, and an employee assistance program, all designed to support their well-being and professional growth.
The Relief Manager position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient and customer-oriented operations at the checkout areas of PAQ’s stores. This full-time, non-exempt role involves supervising and coordinating employee activities in the front-end checkout zones, ensuring that customers receive prompt, friendly, and effective service. The Relief Manager is responsible for managing a team of Combo Clerks by assigning tasks, scheduling breaks, and providing necessary training to maintain high service standards. They are a pivotal figure in handling all cashiering duties, including processing transactions like cash, checks, coupons, electronic payments such as debit, credit, gift cards, EFS, EBT, and WIC. This role requires a hands-on leader who is adaptable and capable of stepping in to perform Combo Clerk duties as necessary.
The Relief Manager ensures strict compliance with regulatory requirements, including those from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and federal agencies, ensuring alcohol sales strictly adhere to legal hours and age restrictions. This position contributes to the smooth functioning of self-checkout stations, monitors for accuracy, and assists customers with any payment or scanning challenges.
With a focus on maintaining an inviting and organized front end, the Relief Manager keeps a close eye on the checkout environment, ensuring it remains clean, presentable, and safe. This includes identifying any potentially unsafe or suspicious activities and taking appropriate action. The role demands strong interpersonal skills, a meticulous approach to cash handling, and a capacity for problem-solving under pressure. It requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, typical of the grocery retail industry.
This opportunity is perfect for individuals looking to grow their career within a supportive, employee-empowered company known for its stability, community engagement, and commitment to team member success. PAQ, Inc. embraces diversity and inclusivity, valuing employees of all backgrounds and experiences and is an equal opportunity employer. As a Relief Manager at PAQ, Inc., you will be instrumental in creating positive shopping experiences while working alongside a team that values your contributions as an employee-owner. Join PAQ, Inc. and take the next step in your retail management career in a company that not only cares about its customers but also its employees’ futures.
