Job Description
Emory Healthcare is a leading healthcare provider known for its commitment to excellence in patient care and innovative medical services. As part of the Emory Healthcare system, Houston Surgical Associates operates to deliver specialized surgical care with a strong emphasis on patient satisfaction and clinical expertise. Emory Healthcare fosters an inclusive work environment, valuing diversity and equal opportunity for all employees, and making accommodations for individuals with disabilities as necessary. The organization supports a professional work culture that encourages growth, patient-centered care, and adherence to the highest standards in health service delivery. Emory Healthcare is nationally recognized for its quality and comprehensive approach to healthcare, integrating cutting-edge treatments with compassionate care.
The role available at Houston Surgical Associates is essential to supporting patients and the surgical team by managing front desk and discharge operations efficiently. This full-time position operates during daytime hours, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, totaling 40 hours per week. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical tasks that ensure a smooth patient experience and accurate record-keeping.
The role involves assisting patients at the reception and discharge windows by greeting them, determining their needs, and guiding them appropriately. In addition to direct patient interaction, the position requires performing related clerical work such as entering patient information into electronic systems, collecting necessary forms, completing medical chart entries, and managing patient fees. Handling pre-certifications for medical procedures is also a critical function, requiring detailed knowledge of insurance and medical billing protocols.
The patient registration process is a core aspect of this job, including verifying and updating patient demographic details and insurance information. The role also entails verifying co-pays, coverage details, and monitoring patient flow within the reception area to notify patients of any delays. Financial reconciliation through daily patient receipt monitoring is another important responsibility ensuring accuracy in transactions.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of medical terminology, billing procedures, and infection control standards. Proficiency in word processing and data entry, along with excellent receptionist skills and the ability to maintain patient records and filing systems, is expected. Effective communication skills are vital, as the role requires interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare providers, often in stressful situations. Additional skills include a solid understanding of alternate health insurance plans and third-party medical insurance pre-certification requirements.
This position requires at least one year of relevant experience in a physician's office or related hospital environment, along with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is mandatory. By joining Emory Healthcare at Houston Surgical Associates, the employee becomes part of a respected healthcare network dedicated to quality, safety, and ethical medical practice. This role provides an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care processes while working within a supportive and dynamic team environment.
