Job Description

The Trauma and Burn Service Department at UMC Health System offers an essential professional service aimed at delivering the highest quality care to trauma and burn patients. This role as a Registered Nurse involves providing oversight and coordination for trauma and burn care throughout the continuum, ensuring that patients achieve and maintain optimal wellness and health. Operating a Level 1 Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center, and specialized pediatric and geriatric trauma centers, the department is dedicated to adhering to standards set by authoritative bodies such as the American College of Surgeons, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the American Burn Association. The responsibilities include managing trauma and burn registries, analyzing data for quality assurance and performance improvement, and submitting data to national and regional agencies in compliance with trauma and burn care standards. The role demands excellent proficiency in computer skills, independent workload management, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes, systems, and care processes. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, the position reflects a consistent work schedule designed to support work-life balance. This nursing role also incorporates elements of performance improvement initiatives, outreach and education, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness. UMC Health System seeks candidates who are proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about trauma and burn care effectiveness and advancements. Ideal candidates will hold or be willing to obtain specific certifications such as TNCC, ATCN, and ABLS, along with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing either currently or within three years. Job Qualifications

  • graduation from accredited school of nursing
  • valid Texas RN license or eligible compact license
  • specialty certification preferred
  • obtain TNCC, ATCN, and ABLS certification within one year
  • instructor status desired
  • BSN required or to be obtained within three years

Job Duties

  • provide oversight and facilitation of optimal care for trauma and burn patients throughout the continuum
  • monitor and implement standards set by relevant national and state organizations for trauma and burn centers
  • establish and maintain the trauma and burn registry, including data entry and quality ensures
  • collect, abstract, and analyze data for trauma and burn patients
  • submit required data to national, state, and regional agencies according to established standards
  • utilize collected data for performance improvement and injury prevention activities
  • coordinate professional meetings and support emergency preparedness initiatives
