The Registered Nurse (RN) PreOp position at SCA Health is a critical perioperative role focused on delivering top-notch clinical care and ensuring patient safety and comfort before surgical procedures. The RN PreOp is responsible for a comprehensive assessment of patients' preoperative health status, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, hemodynamic, pain management, and mental status evaluations. This role requires interpreting complex clinical data from monitors, understanding pathophysiology related to surgical and anesthesia techniques, and developing individualized perioperative care plans.

In this position, the RN advocates for patient safety by protecting patients from injury, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment, managing pain and medication safely, and maintaining fluid and tissue perfusion. The nurse also provides patient and family education about surgical expectations, psychosocial responses, pain management, wound care, and recovery processes. The RN coordinates care through effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring smooth transitions and continuity throughout the perioperative process.
