Job Description

Boys Town National Research Hospital is a renowned healthcare and research institution that focuses on providing specialized nursing and medical care to children and youth. Established as part of Boys Town, a national child and family care organization that has served communities since 1917, the hospital serves as a critical component in delivering comprehensive health services including pediatric care, mental health support, and emergency nursing. With a deep commitment to improving lives through clinical excellence and compassionate care, the hospital integrates its services with innovative research and treatment models to address the unique needs of its young patients. Boys Town itself has a rich history, evolving from a small boardinghouse into a multifaceted organization with a national reach that offers not just healthcare but also social and educational support for families across the United States.

This role focuses on providing frontline nursing care to youth assigned to the hospital. The position is ideal for candidates graduating in 2026 with ASN or BSN qualifications, reflecting the hospital's dedication to cultivating future nursing professionals. The role is available during various shifts including full and part-time evening and overnight schedules, with a $15,000 hiring bonus as an incentive. Nurses in this position are responsible for overseeing the health and wellness of youths, managing daily nursing routines such as medication administration, infection control, emergency care, and health assessments while maintaining close communication with physicians and administrative staff. Working within a multidisciplinary treatment team, the nurse operates under the Psychoeducational Model (PEM) of treatment, which emphasizes holistic approaches tailored to the psychological and educational needs of the youth.

As a nurse at Boys Town National Research Hospital, the individual will engage in a wide array of responsibilities such as administering medications, maintaining medical inventories, educating youth and their families about health concerns, coordinating medical appointments, and assisting with physician rounds. Emergency care management is a critical component of the role to ensure safety and appropriate responses to any emergent health issues. The nurse will also contribute to the admission process by conducting initial mental and physical assessments and orienting youth and their guardians to the hospital program. Documentation and compliance with hospital guidelines are fundamental to the position, including accurate recording of medical orders and nursing activities.

The role demands interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly. Nurses must demonstrate leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Additionally, they are required to maintain competencies in specialized treatment techniques, personal restraint procedures, and uphold a safe environment for both youth and co-workers. Boys Town promotes a culture of respect and inclusion, encouraging staff to embrace diversity and contribute to a supportive workplace environment.

Employees at Boys Town enjoy numerous benefits including no-cost medical visits at Boys Town locations for themselves and dependents, affordable pharmacy co-pays, mental health services, a 401K retirement plan with employer match, tuition assistance, and access to parenting resources. The hospital emphasizes the importance of mental health and professional growth, making this nursing position not only a job but a meaningful career opportunity in pediatric and behavioral health nursing. Boys Town also values equal employment opportunities and provides accommodations for applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process.
