The role of the Regional Director at Design Within Reach is pivotal in driving the company's mission forward by leading multiple storefronts within a designated region. This leadership role entails generating sales by delivering exceptional customer service and strategically managing store operations to achieve sales, service, merchandise presentation, and profit goals. In this position, you will oversee various functions including human resources management, loss prevention, and expense control, ensuring that all activities align with Design Within Reach’s brand standards and corporate expectations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of DWR Stores, the Regional Director acts as a key liaison between individual store teams and corporate leadership, facilitating communication and ensuring the successful execution of company initiatives across the region. The role requires setting and monitoring goals for both individual stores and the region as a whole, delegating priorities, and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and teamwork. The Regional Director will also be responsible for recruiting and developing store management teams, resolving human resource issues, and maintaining a positive work environment that supports employee growth and operational success. This position demands frequent travel within the geographic area to actively visit stores, support staff, and ensure compliance with operational standards. Job Qualifications
- 10+ years of transferable retail management and multi-location responsibility
- Proven ability to travel and manage multiple store locations within a geographic area
- Demonstrated leadership skills in providing outstanding customer service and resolving customer concerns
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with customers, associates, managers, outside contacts, and corporate office
- Experience in setting and achieving sales and profit goals
- Knowledge of visual presentation techniques and merchandising standards
- Ability to develop, inspire, and retain successful management teams
- Skilled in loss prevention strategies and operational compliance
- Proficient in budgeting, scheduling, and expense control
- Experience conducting performance evaluations and managing human resource issues
- Capacity to make sound decisions concerning customer service, merchandising, and personnel matters.
Job Duties
- Drive sales through proper management, goal setting and evaluation, Design Specialist training, staff recognition, and personal effort
- Achieve Store and Regional goals by promoting outstanding customer service, merchandise presentation, hosting store design events, loss prevention, inventory and expense management
- Ensure regional stores adhere to merchandise standards and create impactful visual merchandising
- Oversee loss prevention initiatives to meet shortage goals and 100% staff compliance with safety procedures
- Manage store operations including scheduling, shipment receiving and control, controllable expense, and supply management
- Develop and maintain strong store staff and general manager teams via recruitment, selection, development, and motivation
- Conduct performance evaluations, resolve human resource issues, and foster a positive work environment
- Monitor compliance with company policies, visual and store procedures
- Administer budgeting, payroll expenditures, and adjust scheduling to support sales trends while maintaining profitability
- Act as second and final interviewer for hiring store design specialists and assistant/general managers
- Recommend real estate opportunities, policy changes, and merchandise enhancements
- Represent regional field views to corporate and suggest improvements to programs and initiatives
- Spend at least 50% of time visiting stores within the region to provide leadership and support.
