Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), operates as a broadline food distributor dedicated to serving a wide range of local customers. These include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company's team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work closely with customers to enhance their operations. They provide expert advice on menu development, product selection, and operational strategies aimed at helping independent restaurant owners achieve their business goals sustainably and successfully.

Performance Foodservice distinguishes itself not only by delivering high-quality food products but also through a committed service culture that emphasizes building strong customer relationships. This focus on service excellence has contributed to its reputation as a trusted partner in the foodservice industry. The company fosters a supportive and inclusive work environment that values safety, recognition, and respect among its employees.

The CDL-A Driver role is pivotal within the company’s logistics team, responsible for ensuring that food and foodservice deliveries are made efficiently, safely, and on time. Delivery drivers serve as the frontline representatives of Performance Foodservice, interacting directly with customers and embodying the company's values through professional and courteous service. The position usually involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, shuttle, overnight, and Over-The-Road (OTR) trips. Drivers manage deliveries, unload products, verify shipments, and maintain compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.

This role offers a competitive pay structure, with average earnings between $90,000 and $100,000 annually, supplemented by a $10,000 sign-on bonus, subject to eligibility. Drivers generally work 4 to 5 days per week, starting shifts between 11 PM and 3 AM, and typically operate on regional routes that may include 1-3 day layovers. The company also provides comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement.

Performance Foodservice’s commitment to safety is a cornerstone of the CDL-A Driver’s responsibilities. This includes conducting pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, adhering strictly to DOT safety standards, reporting any safety issues promptly, and ensuring all freight is properly secured. Drivers also manage accurate delivery documentation, perform damage control procedures when necessary, and uphold the company’s standards for equipment maintenance and workplace cleanliness.

In addition to operational duties, CDL-A Drivers play a vital role in maintaining the company’s professional image. They communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and coworkers, providing timely and accurate information while fostering a team-oriented atmosphere within the organization. This role demands physical endurance as drivers must be capable of handing lifting products weighing between 10 and 90 pounds, using tools such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move freight safely.

Performance Foodservice supports diversity and equal employment opportunity, welcoming applications from all qualified individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, or other protected characteristics.
