Job Description

Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor under the Performance Food Group (PFG) umbrella, dedicated to delivering high-quality food products to a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on its comprehensive team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who work collaboratively to build strong, lasting relationships with customers. These professionals offer valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. This hands-on support enables independent restaurateurs and food service providers to not only receive superior food products but also benefit from industry expertise aimed at helping them thrive and achieve their business goals.

Performance Foodservice operates with a commitment to excellence and community impact, ensuring safe and inclusive working environments that promote employee recognition, respect, and growth. The company supports its employees with a competitive pay structure, including an average salary range for the CDL-A driver position between $90,000 and $100,000. Additionally, employees benefit from a sign-on bonus of $10,000 (terms apply), solidifying the company’s competitive stance in the logistics and delivery sector. The driver role is structured around regional routes with 1-3 day layovers, a 4-5 day workweek, and shifts that start between 11 PM and 3 AM, offering a work schedule that balances operational demands and employee life rhythms.

The CDL-A Driver position holds significant responsibility within Performance Foodservice, playing a vital role in America's food supply chain. These drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for various delivery scenarios including intrastate, interstate, local deliveries, over-the-road routes (OTR), shuttle runs, and overnight or drive-and-drop deliveries. Their primary obligation is to ensure timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. The role demands a professional demeanor as drivers frequently interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers, acting as the face of the company and building trusted relationships through reliable service.

Beyond driving duties, CDL-A Drivers at Performance Foodservice are entrusted with several essential tasks that directly impact operational success and customer satisfaction. These include conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, performing accurate checks of delivered items against invoices, securing freight properly, and managing paperwork with attention to detail. Responsibilities also extend to unloading and transporting goods into customer storage areas, performing damage control and reporting, and handling customer returns and payments where applicable. Drivers are required to maintain cleanliness and order in their equipment and work areas and must comply fully with all federal, state, and company regulations concerning hours of service and safety standards.

Performance Foodservice’s commitment to its employees is evident in its supportive work culture and comprehensive benefits package. Employees receive Day 1 health and wellness benefits, participate in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, enjoy employer-matched 401K contributions, have access to education assistance, and are granted paid time off, among other benefits that emphasize employee well-being and professional growth. This role offers significant growth opportunities within the company, providing a stable career path for dedicated drivers in a key industry sector that supports the nation’s food distribution network.

Overall, working as a CDL-A Driver for Performance Foodservice combines competitive compensation with a meaningful role in ensuring America’s food supply chains operate smoothly and efficiently.
