Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in LTL operations
  • Minimum three years field safety responsibility
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • High level of motivation and ability to work with little supervision
  • Effective multitasking and prioritizing skills
  • Professional credentials and certifications preferred such as OSHA 10/30, NATMI-CSS, CDS, BCSP-STS, ASP, CSP
  • Smith System Certification preferred
  • Prior CDL driving or trainer experience preferred
  • Ability to work in field operations with varying weather conditions
  • Proficient with office equipment, cell phones, computers, and regulatory websites

Job Duties

  • Work directly with operations leadership to develop a safety culture rooted in identification and elimination of exposure
  • Organize work to impact defined safety strategy and key initiatives
  • Ensure safety improvement plans and corrective action reduce exposure, injury, and collisions
  • Provide necessary tools, resources, and support
  • Train and develop field leadership through instructor-led sessions, demonstrations, meetings, coaching, and use of prepared curriculum and job aids
  • Verify effectiveness of field safety committees and initiatives
  • Assist in aligning resources
  • Review onsite performance, audits, and supporting data
  • Identify and address compliance gaps with leadership
  • Ensure terminal compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation equipment laws
  • Participate in annual DOT compliance audits
  • Monitor company CSA scores to eliminate exposure and remain below intervention
  • Review and investigate vehicle accidents and injuries
  • Ensure emergency response and notification protocols for serious accidents, injuries, and hazardous material releases
  • Assist with safety representation in local safety legal matters
  • Participate in recognition of safety award recipients and promote positive recognition for safe behavior
  • Establish trust and credibility with terminal operations teams through integrity and communication
  • Travel to multiple site locations 50-75% of the time
