Job Description
The Town Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PR&T) Department stands as a vibrant hub dedicated to enhancing community life by offering diverse recreational, wellness, and tourism programs. As a municipal department, it is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles, fostering community engagement, and creating meaningful experiences for residents of all ages. Serving a broad demographic, the department coordinates numerous programs ranging from athletics and summer camps to wellness classes and special events, ensuring that the recreational needs and interests of the town’s population are met with professionalism and enthusiasm.
The Recreation Program Coordinator role is integral to the success of the PR&T Department. This position is a full-time, non-exempt role, working 40 hours per week, with a hiring salary range of $45,909 to $48,204. The role requires a dynamic and organized individual who will take on the challenge of planning, organizing, promoting, implementing, and supervising a wide variety of programs and events within the department. These programs include youth and adult athletic leagues, summer camps, wellness initiatives, and special community celebrations. Beyond program management, the coordinator is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service and ensuring that participants have a safe, enjoyable, and enriching recreational experience.
The Recreation Program Coordinator will administer the use of facilities, manage volunteers and staff, coordinate schedules, and maintain accurate records of all program activities and personnel hours. Working a schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and occasional nights, this role demands flexibility and dedication. The coordinator is also expected to take a hands-on approach in leading activities, assisting with set-up and clean-up, and ensuring proper adherence to health and safety standards. The position involves collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including local vendors, instructors, volunteers, and the public, which requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Additionally, the coordinator will manage contracts related to wellness programs and provide marketing support by promoting programs on social media, the department website, and through flyers to ensure strong community engagement. The role includes responsibilities in recruiting and training volunteers, evaluating program effectiveness, and working independently with minimal supervision. A valid NC driver’s license and commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement are required, as well as certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid within the first six months on the job.
Overall, this is a rewarding opportunity for a motivated individual passionate about community recreation and wellness to contribute broadly to the town’s quality of life while working in a supportive municipal environment that values professional growth and community service.
