Job Requirements
- equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services or a related field and one year full-time or its equivalent of recreation experience
- possession of a valid California driver's license and good driving record
- obtain first aid and CPR certification within six months of employment
Job Qualifications
- knowledge of modern methods, techniques and procedures used in planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs, events, and classes
- knowledge of marketing and promoting programs, events, and classes
- knowledge of sport program and league preparation including creating league schedules and purchasing and operating necessary equipment
- knowledge of various sport rules and strategies for teaching youth and training coaches
- knowledge of safety policies and procedures
- skill and ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers
- skill in use of a personal computer, including word processing software, excel, design software, and recreation registration software
- skill in preparation of reports, schedules and other related program materials
- skill in public relations, customer service and conflict resolution
- skill in analyzing problems, evaluating alternatives and making creative recommendations
- ability to work under stressful situations and remain calm
- ability to work evenings, night shifts, split shifts, weekends, some holidays and respond appropriately to a call out
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public, and other departments and agencies
- ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- ability to direct the work of others
- ability to establish, develop and maintain quality standards for facility rentals
- ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
Job Duties
- Assist with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating seasonal personnel
- supervise condition of district facilities and report any safety, repair and cleaning concerns appropriately
- recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches
- assist in planning, promoting, implementing, and supervising sports programs
- provide marketing support for assigned programs through social media content, fliers, event attendance, and website
- prepare schedules, standings, reports, and other related administrative material as assigned
- enforce and/or recommend changes to policies and procedures for program operations
- inventory and order equipment and supplies needed for program operations
- attend and speak at community and school functions to promote programs
- provide good customer service and promptly address customer concerns
- actively research new sports programs and sponsors
- willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
- motivate and inspire seasonal personnel and volunteers
- assist with other program areas as demands dictate
- perform related duties as required
