Job Description

This full-time position, based at the I.R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center, offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about community service and recreation program management. The salary range for this role is competitive, starting between $63,242 and up to $98,103 annually, with the hiring range specifically noted as $63,242 to $73,203. The work schedule generally covers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Wednesday from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with some early morning, evening, and weekend commitments required to accommodate community needs.
The Recreation Program Supervisor will play a pivotal role in advancing the department's mission by managing recreation and special needs programming and overseeing facility operations. This position involves leadership duties such as supervising Recreation Specialists and part-time staff, developing and implementing programs that reflect community interests, and maintaining safe, clean, and efficient recreation facilities. The role demands a hands-on approach to assessing community needs via surveys, coordinating program development with various stakeholders, and ensuring financial accountability by monitoring budgets and procurement activities.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the front desk operations, marketing programs, organizing volunteers, and maintaining accurate records and reports related to facility use and program execution. You will be directly involved in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff, with an emphasis on fostering a positive and productive work environment. Furthermore, the position requires strong customer service capabilities to effectively resolve escalated issues and engage community members, vendors, and external agencies.

Job Requirements
- Associate’s degree in recreation, leisure services, or related field
- four years of recreation program and/or facility management experience
- supervisory or lead experience
- valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within the first six months of employment
- valid, unrestricted, North Carolina Class C driver’s license or willingness to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Supervises recreation, special needs, aquatics, and related program and events
- develops program or event plans and schedules
- assesses community needs through surveys and other tools
- supervises staff and volunteers, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work
- evaluates programs and makes modifications
- audits recreation facility operations and updates operating policies and procedures
- monitors program or facility expenditures
- supervises facility usage and scheduling operations
- ensures facility safety and cleanliness
- assesses program and event needs and facility capacity
- monitors supply inventories and ensures adequacy
- identifies and contracts with vendors, gathering quotes and bids, ordering supplies, and ensuring that procurement activities comply with City policies and procedures
- prepares, reviews, processes, and/or maintains reports, records, work orders, and other documentation
- processes rental contracts
- maintains databases
- processes invoices, payments, purchase orders and deposits
- enters, compiles, and reconciles data
- prepares information reports
- and proofs work for accuracy and completeness
- oversees program and/or facility customer service
- responds to and resolves escalated customer service issues
- responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from residents, contractors, vendors, community groups, City departments, and/or external agencies
- and facilitates and promotes programs and events
