Job Description

Clearwater Recreation Department is a key player in promoting health, wellness, and community engagement within the city of Clearwater. As a public service organization, it offers a wide array of recreational programs and services aimed at improving the quality of life for residents of all ages. The department manages multiple recreational facilities, including fitness centers, gymnasiums, multipurpose spaces, and outdoor fields, ensuring that community members have access to diverse opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and educational growth. The Recreation Coordinator under general direction, will oversee the creation, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs and activities across Clearwater’s various recreational facilities. The role includes managing participation records, maximizing the use of facility spaces like fitness centers, gymnasiums, fields, and multi-purpose rooms, and spearheading marketing efforts to increase community engagement. The coordinator will develop age-appropriate programs such as after-school initiatives, summer camps, Silver Sneaker programs for seniors, and various special events including arts, games, field trips, and parent nights.

This position is also responsible for researching and developing curricula and lesson plans, coordinating program calendars, managing registration and customer service, tracking expenditures, and preparing financial documentation. An important aspect of the role involves recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising seasonal staff, camp leaders, and program counselors to ensure all operations run smoothly and in compliance with policies. The Recreation Coordinator will work closely with the Pinellas County Licensing Board to ensure youth care programs meet all required licensing and grant standards. Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in recreation or related field
  • experience with program development and community engagement

  • experience in staff supervision

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in recreation, education, or related field

Job Duties

  • Creates, develops, implements and monitors programming, activities, and other services for Clearwater recreation facilities
  • manages participation numbers in RecTrac

  • markets and promotes programs within the community
  • develops, organizes, and implements after-school programs, camp programs, Silver Sneaker programs, age-specific activities, field trips, activity lessons, games, arts, parents nights, and special events

  • manages and coordinates the facility program calendar
  • sets up classes and recommends pricing structures
  • participates in registration and customer service activities
  • tracks expenditures and manages financial paperwork
  • researches and compiles information for field trips, guest speakers, and camp supplies
  • interviews, hires, trains, and supervises summer staff, camp leaders, and program counselors
  • creates work schedules and ensures compliance with policies
  • ensures all programs meet community needs and licensing requirements
  • performs other duties as assigned
